Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or seven plus years related underwriting experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrates a high level of responsiveness and focus in supporting key agent's and broker's objectives with a talent for building rewarding partnerships
  • Expert-level knowledge of casualty insurance underwriting, risk selection, pricing, and the marketplace as a whole
  • Proven track record of driving profitable growth
  • Demonstrates an understanding and ability to effectively engage in the negotiation process
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented with initiative and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in mentoring underwriters in various career stages
  • Advanced levels of teamwork, persistence, leadership, and exceptional customer service skills
  • Ability to travel

Responsibilities
  • Supervise, lead and direct an underwriting team
  • Review underwriter referrals to verify acceptability based upon company underwriting guidelines and granted underwriting authority
  • Leverage advanced level knowledge in reviewing and quoting broker submissions to build a book of profitable and diverse primary and supported excess business
  • Utilize underwriting tools to determine accurate classifications, rates, and premium charges
  • Identify, research, and develop areas of opportunity and market trends
  • Manage assigned underwriting territory, including the performance (GWP, loss ratio) of assigned brokers and underwriting team
  • Utilize extensive underwriting experience for consulting advice to underwriters and service staff
  • Interact with broker partners through site visits, in person meetings and providing unparalleled service
  • Oversee and approve endorsements, resolve premium audit disputes, and handle similar account maintenance tasks
  • Create, analyze, and interpret data from various reports/dashboards
  • Conduct educational sessions within the department
