A Day in the Life
The Tool Maker is responsible for providing input into designing, constructing, and maintaining precision tools, dies, and fixtures used in the manufacturing process. This role requires interpreting technical drawings, utilizing a variety of machine tools, and ensuring that tools meet exact specifications for production. Additionally, the Tool Maker provides technical support in areas such as production, operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement, or product development.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
Input in Designing of components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing and field service operations.
Utilizes computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools, such as Creo, SolidWorks, and MasterCam Software.
Collaborate with design and engineering. Support manufacturing tooling, and planning groups such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.
TECHNICIAN SUPPORT CAREER STREAM: Provides technical support in areas such as production, operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement or product development. Uses schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions or defined plans to perform testing and troubleshooting on mechanical components, equipment or systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Operation of Machine Tools: Operate Lathes, EDM Machines, Milling Machines, Grinders, and other machine tools to fabricate parts and tools.
Maintenance and Repair: Maintain and repair tools and equipment to ensure they are in proper working order.
Quality Control: Inspect completed tools and dies to ensure they meet the required specifications and quality standards.
Collaboration and Documentation: Work closely with engineers, production teams, and other stakeholders to troubleshoot and optimize tool performance. Maintain accurate records of tool designs, modifications, and maintenance activities.
Skills and Qualifications:
Technical Skills: Proficient in the use of machine tools and CAD software for designing tools. Ability to perform detailed mathematical calculations and manipulate technical data.
Blueprint: Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints and specifications to determine tool dimensions and materials.
Attention to Detail: High degree of precision and attention to detail in creating and inspecting tools.
Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues with tools and dies.
Communication: Good communication skills to collaborate with team members and other departments. Ability to obtain and provide technical information requiring some explanation or interpretation.
Must Have (Required:
Requires minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
Requires high school diploma or equivalent (United States), vocational or technical education or certification (all other countries).

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$53,200 - $79,800
