Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a strategic communications plan for all NTC/Metro Atlanta-related initiatives.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with local and national media to promote the NTC.
  • Serve as the primary communications liaison for Atlanta-based stakeholders, including AMBSE, Coca-Cola, and other key partners.
  • Act as a community ambassador, representing U.S. Soccer with local civic and community organizations and serving as spokesperson when necessary.
  • Partner with the events team to coordinate media and community activities around milestone NTC events.
  • Support the NTC partnership development team with communication strategies.
  • Provide media relations assistance for Men's, Women's, Youth, and Extended National Teams when training at the NTC.
  • Ensure messaging is consistent with established Federation messaging, internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with content team to align messaging and storytelling initiatives.
  • Align all communications with business objectives, clearly connecting to the U.S. Soccer mission, vision, strategy and purpose.
  • Develop strong cross-functional relationships with key partners and stakeholders across the organization.
  • Develop and implement strategic communications plans for B2B communications around FIFA World Cup, U.S. Open Cup, and New Business Ventures including TST, College Cup and real estate.
  • Support internal clients within the Federation including strategy, tournaments, and commercial teams to support their communications needs surrounding these initiatives.
  • Conduct media and speaker training for U.S. Soccer spokespeople in alignment with strategic messaging frameworks.
  • Act as a facilitator for meetings with internal departments and external partners.
  • Serve as an emcee or moderator for U.S. Soccer events when necessary.
  • Lead and mentor a corporate communications manager to assist with department initiatives.

US Soccer Federation sporting director Matt Crocker quits for Saudi Arabia job 2 months before World Cup

Matt Crocker has resigned as sporting director of the US Soccer Federation to take a position in Saudi Arabia, just two months before the World Cup. His departure comes as the US prepares to co-host the tournament starting 11 June and faces a decision on men's coach Mauricio Pochettino, whose contract expires after the World Cup. Dan Helfrich, the federation's chief operating officer, will oversee sporting operations alongside assistant sporting director Oguchi Onyewu and Tracey Kevins, head of women's youth development. Crocker, 51, joined the USSF in April 2023 from Southampton. During his tenure, he oversaw the rehiring and subsequent firing of Gregg Berhalter, Pochettino's appointment and Emma Hayes's hiring as women's coach. Hayes led the women's team to Olympic gold.

The program will provide funding and resources to 500 youth soccer clubs across the United States as interest in the sport grows ahead of the upcoming World Cup. As the official nutrition partner of U.S. Soccer, Chobani said the effort is designed to reduce financial barriers to participation while helping families better understand how nutrition affects performance and recovery. The initiative includes a $5 million investment to support 500 youth soccer teams nationwide. The funding is intended to offset participation costs and increase opportunities for children to join the sport. By bringing together local partners, public institutions, and key soccer stakeholders, Soccer Forward Communities represents a long-term, coordinated approach to growing the game at the community level. The initiative is focused not only on increasing participation, but on building sustainable, inclusive, and community-driven soccer ecosystems. By working alongside, investing in and equipping local U.S. Soccer Members, community organizations, schools, and municipalities, Soccer Forward is aligning national support with local expertise to create lasting impact through the game. Soccer has long served as a unifying force, connecting people across backgrounds and experiences.
