Requirements
  • B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D in Mechanical Engineering or Physics
  • 3-5 years of experience applying engineering principles to solve complex problems related to thermal/fluid systems and/or cryogenics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated use of advanced analysis tools such as Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Finite Difference, and/or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
  • Ability to provide technical leadership in ambiguous situations
Responsibilities
  • Focus on cryogenic application of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and structural mechanics for the development of cryostats, valve boxes, and related technologies
  • General design activities including requirements management, materials and component selection, Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and tolerance analyses
  • Detailed design, analysis, and testing of system components like cryostat, cryogenic distribution system, and cryoplant systems
  • Coordinate technical activities across multiple disciplines, supervise others, and provide hands-on guidance to technical staff during fabrication, installation, integration, and operations of SRF and cryogenics systems
  • Lead the development of verification/validation test plans for cryogenic mechanical systems, and lead in the testing of such systems and the evaluation of test results
  • Develop new processes, methods, and ways of working
  • Thoroughly document design inputs and outputs
  • Assist and/or direct vendors to create prototypes
  • Review and ensure the adequacy of vendor qualification activities
  • Analyze field issues related to cryogenic design and provide solutions where required
  • Participate in multidisciplinary project teams through all phases of product development to ensure successful execution of innovative designs
