Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required for the Research Specialist A level.
  • A Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required for the Research Specialist B level.
  • Computer skills are required.
  • Good written and verbal interpersonal skills are needed to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and clients.
  • Rabies vaccination is required.
  • Occasional extended-day or weekend work is required.
  • Candidates must provide their own transportation because there is no public transportation at the Kennett Square location.
  • A cover letter must be included with the resume.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare fresh and fixed tissue samples.
  • Perform all aspects of antigen-capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay testing for chronic wasting disease.
  • Perform routine diagnostic testing for chronic wasting disease and other wildlife-related diseases.
  • Use a computer-based laboratory information management system for accessioning, resulting, and finalizing cases.
  • Perform daily quality assurance activities.
  • Maintain proficiency in chronic wasting disease enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay testing.
  • Develop, validate, and implement new diagnostic assays during the non-peak chronic wasting disease testing season.
  • Develop and perform molecular, serological, and prion amplification techniques, including real-time quaking-induced conversion, in accordance with applicable accreditation standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience performing serology and molecular assays and diagnostic experience is preferred.
  • Advanced education and additional relevant laboratory experience may qualify candidates for the Research Specialist B level.
