Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • A Master of Business Administration (MBA) or CPA certification.
  • At least eight years of health care finance experience.
  • Financial management and supervisory experience in a health care setting.
  • Strong collaboration, team-building, and consensus-building skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to provide constructive feedback to team members to support continuous improvement.
  • High-level problem identification, mitigation, and resolution skills.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of accounting information systems.
  • Ability to adapt and quickly learn other computer applications as required.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct the financial activities of member hospitals and related subsidiaries and affiliates.
  • Manage the general accounting functions for all assigned entities.
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial statements for all assigned entities.
  • Monitor the financial performance and financial position of assigned entities to identify variances and key trends affecting financial viability.
  • Lead the completion and due diligence of comprehensive business plans related to new programs, capital investments, and proposed operational changes in partnership with local and system leadership teams.
  • Work with the management team and physician leaders to identify and execute opportunities to maximize revenue, reduce costs, and achieve effective utilization and quality results.
  • Manage complex funds flow between WVU Hospitals, University Health Associates, and West Virginia University School of Medicine and Health Science Center.
  • Serve as the financial representative of hospital joint ventures, including HealthNet and Monongalia Emergency Medical Services.
  • Oversee the financial support functions of the Heart and Vascular Institute, Cancer Institute, and Rockefeller Neurosciences Institute.
  • Establish and maintain centralized administrative and financial policies for areas of responsibility where appropriate.
  • Coordinate reporting on the financial performance and financial position of assigned entities to their respective Finance Committees and Boards of Directors, with direct responsibility for the WVUH and UHA Joint Finance Committee.
  • Assist with annual external financial statement audits and corrective action plans addressing management letters and recommendations for improving or correcting accounting system control procedures.
  • Lead long-range strategic planning for assigned entities, including identifying and assessing growth opportunities, process improvements, margin enhancements, and resource deployment.
  • Lead the annual update of the long-range financial forecast for assigned entities to assess system-wide capital requirements, debt capacity, and cash planning.
  • Complete and oversee annual operating and capital budgets for assigned entities within established budget guidelines and parameters.
  • Monitor changes in the healthcare regulatory environment and develop strategies to manage those changes.
  • Identify future needs and problem areas, develop workable solutions, and follow through to action while providing financial assistance to system staff and senior management teams.
  • Maintain a personal development program, attend meetings and seminars, and apply current field knowledge within assigned entities and the system.
  • Travel periodically throughout the region.
Desired Qualifications
  • CPA certification.
  • A master's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration.
  • Financial management in a hospital and/or a health care system environment.
