Requirements
- A Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies, a Nurse Practitioner program, or another advanced practice provider program is required.
- Current New York State licensure as a Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, or Clinical Nurse Specialist is required.
- Certification by the appropriate board, such as the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, American Nurses Credentialing Center, or American Association of Nurse Practitioners, is required.
- Strong clinical knowledge in electrophysiology, arrhythmia management, and cardiac care is required.
- Ability to perform patient assessments and interpret diagnostic tests such as electrocardiograms, Holter monitoring, and device interrogation is required.
- Proficiency in assisting with cardiac device implantation, including pacemakers, defibrillators, and electrophysiological studies, is required.
- Knowledge of medical software, electronic health records, and medical documentation practices is required.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, including medical histories, physical examinations, and pre-procedural assessments.
- Review and interpret patient diagnostic results, including electrocardiograms, Holter monitors, and electrophysiology studies.
- Assist in identifying and managing arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, and atrial flutter.
- Provide education and counseling on lifestyle changes, medication management, and post-procedure care for patients with arrhythmias.
- Assist electrophysiologists with catheter ablation, electrophysiological studies, and device implantation procedures involving pacemakers and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators.
- Prepare patients for procedures, including obtaining proper consent, providing education, and ensuring comfort.
- Monitor patients during procedures while maintaining sterile technique and patient safety.
- Support device implantation, lead placement, and post-procedural assessments.
- Educate patients about their arrhythmia, treatment options, adherence to prescribed therapies, pre-procedural instructions, and post-procedural recovery.
- Conduct follow-up appointments, assess recovery, monitor pacemaker or defibrillator function, and adjust treatment plans as needed.
- Help patients understand device settings, troubleshoot issues, and follow regular check-up requirements.
- Collaborate with the electrophysiology team, cardiologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Communicate with patients and families to answer questions, address concerns, and provide ongoing education.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and clinical discussions to review patient progress and refine treatment plans.
- Document patient interactions and clinical findings in an electronic health record system.
- Ensure patient care activities comply with regulatory requirements, hospital policies, and professional standards.
- Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and timely patient records.
- Stay current with electrophysiology research, techniques, and best practices to improve patient care.
Desired Qualifications
- Previous experience in cardiology, electrophysiology, or critical care is preferred.
- Experience in an electrophysiology laboratory setting is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills with patients, families, and the healthcare team are desirable.
- Ability to work independently while functioning effectively as part of a collaborative team is desirable.
