Requirements
  • Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current Certified Radiologic Technologist certification and New York State licensure are required upon hire.
  • ARRT Radiography Certification with continuing education credits is required upon hire.
Responsibilities
  • Set up and utilize all MRI equipment, including imaging coils, patient monitoring systems, and related equipment.
  • Evaluate image quality by troubleshooting scanner or coil problems and scan parameters, and identify and compensate for imaging artifacts.
  • Review MRI registration and screening forms thoroughly to confirm safe access into the magnet room.
  • Assist in training new MRI technologists and students.
  • Perform filming, archiving, and Picture Archiving and Communication System network data management for each patient scanned.
  • Retrieve old MRI data for restoration and filming or networking.
  • Learn new techniques with each subsequent scanner upgrade.
  • Communicate pertinent patient information to necessary staff.
  • Scan patients safely and efficiently, complete associated paper and computer work, and discharge patients with appropriate post-MRI instructions.
  • Identify patient service requirements and educate patients and families regarding procedures or treatments.
  • Prepare patients for radiological and MRI procedures by positioning them, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into position, and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
  • Perform procedures by following and verifying referring provider orders.
  • Produce high-quality images and prepare and present them with pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate documentation and maintain MRI image production and quality according to established standards, orders, protocols, and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors by adhering to MRI safety policies specific to MRI Zones.
  • Perform and evaluate equipment quality-control measurements.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and notify appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
  • May train new employees or lead day-to-day work activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
