- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school is required, or verifiable applicable work experience in a patient care setting.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider Certification is required.
- If hired after January 1, 2015, current certification as a Medical Assistant from an accepted certifying agency is required within six months of hire.
- Perform patient care under the direction and supervision of a physician or Advanced Practice Provider in an ambulatory care setting.
- Gather patient data through interviews and observation.
- Assist patients and families with preparation for examinations.
- Assist physicians or Advanced Practice Providers during examinations and procedures.
- Document treatments, procedures, and patient education according to organizational and department policies.
- Act as a patient liaison by scheduling specialty testing and physician consultations and providing scheduling information.
- Process incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using clinical judgment.
- Enter medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under provider direction.
- Follow organizational and department policies, procedures, safety practices, infection-control standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Assess patient data according to age-specific care needs.
- Participate in quality assurance and quality indicator activities as assigned.
- Assist the business office with reception, scheduling, and patient discharge as needed.
- Use supplies efficiently.
