Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy is required.
  • A current Occupational Therapy license in North Carolina is required.
  • The ability to push-pull, lift-carry, and transfer patients is required.
Responsibilities
  • Develop, improve, or restore patients' skills in activities of daily living, work or productive activities, and play or leisure.
  • Use therapeutic occupations, environmental adaptations, health and wellness promotion, graded tasks, assistive technology, orthotic or prosthetic devices, physical agent modalities, and ergonomic principles in interventions.
  • Serve as a resource person for the team and department.
  • Demonstrate sound clinical reasoning when synthesizing complex evaluation data, identifying diagnoses, and developing comprehensive plans of care.
  • Develop and update plans of care with patients, families, and related healthcare providers, including measurable goals and defined discharge plans.
  • Select and administer appropriate assessment and treatment techniques.
  • Perform competency skills appropriate to the practice area and individual patient needs.
  • Follow intervention protocols and revise interventions appropriately.
  • Discharge patients when goals are met or medical necessity no longer applies, and establish continuing services or follow-up as needed.
  • Meet competency requirements for evaluations in the practice area.
  • Meet patient-care productivity standards for the job classification.
  • Work cooperatively with supervisors and peers to support overall team productivity.
  • Use support personnel appropriately when available.
  • Support and participate in patient coverage efforts across department divisions as necessary.
  • Assess the learning needs and capabilities of patients and caregivers.
  • Provide timely patient and family education based on age, length of stay, readiness to learn, and emotional status.
  • Use appropriate methods and materials for education, monitor responses, and adapt the program appropriately.
  • Ensure patients and families understand when and how to access further intervention.
  • Complete timely, legible, concise, pertinent, and standards-compliant patient-care documentation.
  • Provide clear, concise, relevant, and timely oral reports.
  • Complete required departmental data collection accurately and within expected time frames.
  • Meet peer-review standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with members of the healthcare team.
  • Take one to two students for short-term clinical rotations and adjust supervisory techniques to individual student needs.
  • Provide in-services on clinical education attended.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the described work.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Additional experience may be preferred at times.
