Requirements
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or a closely related field is required.
  • A Professional Engineer (P.E.) license is required.
  • A minimum of 5–10 years of experience in civil engineering, ADA compliance, accessibility review, or quality assurance for public infrastructure or transit projects is required.
  • Strong knowledge and in-depth understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act, Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Standards, Uniform Federal Accessibility Standards, and other accessibility guidelines are required.
  • Proficiency in civil engineering and design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, or similar software is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, and proficiency in proper documentation, reporting, and use of field inspection tools are required.
  • The ability to interpret and apply complex regulations effectively is required.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and conduct reviews of civil, architectural, and engineering designs, specifications, and construction plans to ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Architectural Barriers Act Accessibility Standards, and other accessibility regulations.
  • Perform field inspections, audits, and on-site assessments of Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority stations, facilities, and infrastructure to verify accessibility compliance.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and construction teams to integrate accessibility solutions and resolve field-related compliance issues.
  • Prepare detailed reports, technical documentation, and recommendations for corrective actions on non-compliant elements.
  • Advise project teams on best practices for accessible design, construction, and execution.
  • Develop and support quality assurance procedures to ensure accessibility compliance throughout all project phases, including design, construction, and closeout.
  • Stay current with federal, state, and local accessibility standards and regulations, and apply them to project planning and execution.
  • Support training and awareness initiatives to promote Americans with Disabilities Act compliance across project teams.
  • Attend required meetings and perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Eight to ten years of experience is preferred for senior-level roles.
  • Experience working on Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority or similar transit agency projects is highly preferred.
  • Certification as an Accessibility Specialist, such as Certified Access Specialist or ADA Coordinator Training Certification, is preferred.
