Valmet appoints Pia Aaltonen-Forsell as Chief Financial Officer to strengthen global leadership team. Valmet has announced the appointment of Pia Aaltonen-Forsell as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and a member of the company's Executive Leadership Team. The appointment marks an important leadership transition as the global technology company continues to focus on long-term growth, financial performance and strategic development across the process industries. Aaltonen-Forsell will report directly to President and Chief Executive Officer Thomas Hinnerskov. She is expected to assume the position no later than the end of January 2027. The appointment forms part of Valmet's ongoing efforts to strengthen its executive leadership with experienced professionals who possess extensive international business expertise. The incoming CFO joins Valmet from Finnair, where she currently serves as Chief Financial Officer. Her professional background includes senior financial leadership roles in several globally recognised industrial organisations. This experience spans multiple sectors and reflects a strong track record in managing finance functions within complex international businesses. Before joining Finnair, Aaltonen-Forsell held the position of Chief Financial Officer at Northvolt. She also served as CFO at Outokumpu, Ahlström-Munksjö, Munksjö and Vacon. Earlier in her career, she worked in several management and finance positions at Stora Enso, gaining broad experience in corporate finance, strategic planning and international business operations. Her industry involvement extends beyond executive management. Aaltonen-Forsell currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors at UPM-Kymmene Corporation. Thomas Hinnerskov welcomed the appointment and highlighted the value of Aaltonen-Forsell's extensive financial expertise. He noted that her experience in leading finance organisations across complex global businesses will contribute to the company's future development. According to Hinnerskov, her leadership will play an important role as Valmet continues to implement its strategic priorities. He stated that her expertise is expected to support financial performance, improve cost competitiveness and contribute to sustainable long-term value creation for stakeholders. The leadership transition follows an earlier announcement regarding the departure of Valmet's current Chief Financial Officer, Katri Hokkanen. It was confirmed on 20 March 2026 that Hokkanen would leave her position by the end of September 2026. The succession process has therefore been planned well in advance to ensure continuity within the finance organisation. The appointment reflects a wider trend across the industrial technology sector, where companies continue to strengthen executive teams with experienced leaders capable of supporting business transformation, financial resilience and operational efficiency. Valmet operates as a global technology leader serving a broad range of process industries. The company works closely with customers throughout the entire lifecycle of industrial operations, delivering advanced technologies, specialised services, mission-critical automation solutions and flow control systems that support reliable production and operational performance. Its business strategy focuses on combining industrial expertise with technological innovation to help customers improve productivity, optimise resource efficiency and enhance long-term sustainability. The company builds on more than 225 years of industrial experience, providing customers with technical knowledge developed across generations of engineering and manufacturing excellence. The organisation is supported by approximately 18,500 professionals operating close to customers around the world. This global workforce enables local expertise to be combined with international capabilities, supporting projects across diverse industrial sectors and geographic regions. Automation and digital technologies continue to play an increasingly important role within Valmet's offering. Mission-critical automation systems are delivered alongside advanced flow control solutions to help customers achieve higher operational efficiency and greater process reliability. Comprehensive lifecycle services are also provided to maximise equipment performance over time. As industrial businesses continue to navigate changing market conditions, experienced financial leadership is becoming increasingly important. Against this backdrop, Aaltonen-Forsell's appointment represents an important addition to Valmet's Executive Leadership Team. Her extensive experience across aviation, energy storage, metals, forestry products and industrial manufacturing provides a broad perspective that aligns with the company's international operations and future ambitions. With the leadership transition now confirmed, Valmet continues to reinforce its executive capabilities while maintaining its long-term focus on serving process industries through advanced technologies, automation expertise, flow control solutions and customer-focused lifecycle services.
