  • An Associate’s degree is required.
  • Registration in Diagnostic Radiology is required.
  • Registration in Mammography through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists must be obtained within one year of hire.
  • Demonstrate communication, interpersonal, customer relations, basic math, grammar, and spelling skills.
  • Ability to cope with confrontation, stress, multiple priorities, and the anger, fear, or hostility of others in a calm manner.
  • Ability to assist with problem resolution, work alone, adapt to shift work, work in close and crowded areas, make fast decisions under pressure, concentrate, and demonstrate patience and flexibility.
  • Ability to perform sustained alert and concentrated computer or cathode-ray-tube work, as well as standing, walking, lifting light objects, and assisting with lifting and moving patients.
  • Maintain unsupervised access to unit medication rooms for stocking or retrieving supplies.
Responsibilities
  • Open the unit each morning; turn on, prepare, and test equipment; organize paperwork and supplies; and report repair or additional testing needs to a supervisor or physicist.
  • Greet patients, take brief histories, explain examinations, answer questions, and address patient fears and concerns.
  • Conduct radiographic examinations, develop and quality-check images, determine whether additional views or radiologist consultation are needed, and release patients after verifying x-ray readability.
  • Prepare patient files for radiologist review, including compiling films and ensuring patient history forms are complete and attached.
  • Maintain the department and dark room in a clean and orderly condition and stock required materials, supplies, and chemicals.
  • Close the unit, store and secure materials, and clean and prepare machines for use.
  • Maintain current knowledge of radiography and mammography by attending lectures or seminars and communicate relevant findings to patients.
  • Perform radiography and ancillary functions as directed, participate in quality assurance and quality control activities, and coordinate activities with Radiology.
  • Conduct quality assurance testing of x-ray machines and processors and maintain records of daily testing.
  • Apply stereotactic needle localization setup and procedures and assist physicians with procedures and biopsies.
  • Acquire spot magnification and other specialized breast views to support radiologist diagnosis.
  • Provide customer service consistent with the organization’s mission, values, and customer service standards.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, compliance requirements, code of ethics, and organizational policies.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
