Requirements
  • Eight years of directly related full-time experience, or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Recreation Management, Sports Administration, or a closely related field and four years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Current American Red Cross or equivalent lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor, CPR/AED, and First Aid certifications, or the ability to obtain them within 30 days of employment.
  • Current Certified Pool Operator or Aquatics Facility Operator certification, or the ability to obtain it within one year of hire.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of campus recreation and fitness programming, risk management standards and practices, inventory control principles and methods, marketing principles including promotion, fundraising, and public relations, and budget control principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
  • Ability to effectively manage the work of others by providing information, guidance, and motivation.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the assigned program area and facilities, including Aquatics, RecVentures, and the Waterfront.
  • Oversee the recruitment, hiring, and training of full-time staff and part-time OPS staff who support the goals and objectives of the functional area.
  • Oversee the operational management and usage of the Lee County/FGCU Aquatics Center, South Village Pool, and Waterfront facilities.
  • Serve as the Facility Use Custodian for the Lee County/FGCU Aquatics Center, South Village Pool, and Waterfront; develop Facility Use Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding, verify insurance requirements, tax-exempt status, alcohol use, and solicitation requests, and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Oversee RecVentures programming and initiatives, including motorized and non-motorized boat programs, educational clinics, trip programs, and equipment rentals.
  • Oversee aquatic programming, including swim lessons, swim and dive club training and meets, and safety certification programming.
  • Develop and implement risk management and safety plans and ensure that all safety practices are followed.
  • Assist with instructor training for department full-time staff in first aid and risk management certification programs.
  • Collect and analyze data to assess and evaluate programs and initiatives.
  • Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures for the effective operation of multiple program areas and facilities.
  • Develop and manage operating budgets to ensure program alignment with fiscal allocation.
  • Assist with goal setting and planning; develop goals, student learning outcomes, and objectives; and assist with developing and implementing the overall departmental strategic plan.
  • Stay current on trends and best practices in aquatics, risk management, and outdoor adventure programming to develop improved programming and remain within aquatic-facility operational standards.
  • Participate in state, regional, and national professional organizations, conferences, and workshops.
  • Serve on assigned University Recreation and Wellness and university work teams and committees.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's degree from an accredited institution in Recreation Management, Sports Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Two years of full-time professional experience in higher education campus recreation related to the position.
  • Experience scheduling and supervising the work of students, support, and professional employees.
  • Experience in swim meet coordination.
