Riot engineers bring deep knowledge of specific technical areas but also value the chance to work in many broader domains. As an Engineering Manager, you’ll predominantly offer creative solutions to organizational design. You’ll also serve as a mentor for a team of engineers, overseeing performance management, growth opportunities, and accountability.
As a Manager, Software Engineering you will guide the Data Experiences and Automation team as well as the Ingestion, Refinement, and Standards team in Riot’s Central Data group as they create a solution that scalably handles all our data workflows for data producers and data engineering customers. You will ensure our internal customers have a frictionless and valuable experience as they integrate with and build on our data platform. You will mentor and grow a team of engineers, passionately focused on their careers and individual strengths. You will report to the Director, Software Engineering for Data Foundations.
Responsibilities:
- Manage teams of 6-10 software and systems engineers ranging from associate-level to staff-level.
- Support a team working collaboratively with product, delivery, technical, and quality leads.
- Help us with design, code and release processes for the products and solutions produced on your team.
- Mentor software engineers, building career paths with them to help meet their goals.
- Design the team makeup so that it has the skills and staff needed for our goals.
- Ensure what we are building are serving our customers long-term goals.
- Balance short-term and long-term needs to ensure stable, operational, extensible services.
Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years as an Engineering Manager/Director of Engineering working on teams that ship business-facing software.
- 6+ years professional experience as a software engineer.
- Expertise with continuous development and deployments of large-scale systems.
- Expertise in project management, prioritization frameworks and guiding investment strategies in people and systems.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience leading software products that use Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
- Experience with globally deployed platforms.
- Experience defining and delivering technical solutions to technical users.
