Who is BlueRock?
BlueRock Therapeutics, a wholly-owned and independently operated subsidiary of Bayer AG, is a leading engineered cell therapy company using its unique cell+gene platform to direct cellular differentiation and genetically engineer cells to create a new generation of cellular medicines that address large patient populations suffering from neurological, cardiovascular, and immunology diseases.
The convergence of cell biology and genetic engineering is creating fundamental new ways to impact disease. Founded in 2016 to capitalize on these technological breakthroughs, we are advancing our novel cell+gene platform to develop, manufacture, and deliver an entirely new generation of authentic and engineered cell therapies across three therapeutic areas: neurology, cardiology, and immunology.
What Are We Doing?
Our foundational science harnesses the ability to create and then direct the differentiation of universal pluripotent stem cells into authentic, functional cells that can be used as allogeneic cellular therapies to treat a broad array of diseases. We can also further engineer these cells, enabling them to produce enzymes, antibodies, and other proteins for additional therapeutic benefit.
We are passionate about delivering on the promise of cellular and gene therapy, shaping the future of cellular medicine, and delivering new therapies to millions of patients with treatment options.
We are seeking individuals who are collaborative, thrive in a fun and dynamic culture, and are steadfast in the commitment to advance cutting-edge cellular therapies to impact patients’ lives.
The Senior Scientist, PSC Biology will be a strategic and technical leader of a team responsible for developing, testing, and implementing novel NGS (epi-) genome sequencing technologies to characterize human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) and their differentiated progeny at the molecular, (epi-) genomic level. This includes the use of NGS technologies to evaluate on- and off-target gene editing analysis of genome engineered PSCs. They will work independently and collaboratively participate in efforts to generate and analyze different types of sequencing data to gain further knowledge of PSC pluripotent state and their differentiation potential. They will also support and guide colleagues and their activities on the team, consistent with team leadership aligned program goals. Hands-on wet-lab experience with NGS sequencing technologies (nucleic acid extractions, sequencing library preparation, etc.) as well as a strong theoretical background in (human) genetics is essential; strong background in stem cell biology is preferred. Experience with hPSC culture, CRISPR/Cas-based genome engineering, and bioinformatics is strongly preferred. The incumbent will work closely with several collaborating teams, including through roles representing the team in cross-functional settings.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a talented individual to contribute to bringing a new class of medicines to patients and gain valuable career experience in the cell therapy space. Collaboration with a highly motivated, world-class team of scientists and engineers promises an exciting and engaging work environment for motivated candidates.
Responsibilities:
- Design and lead diverse NGS sequencing projects (including, but not limited to long-read, short-read genomic sequencing, bulk RNA-seq, scRNA-seq).
- Analyze and maintain experimental data in electronic laboratory notebooks in a timely and accurate manner.
- Prepare and follow standard operating procedures, batch records, development and technical reports, and other process documentation.
- Manage direct report to maintain and characterize hPSC cultures and differentiated progeny.
- Maintain inventory of required reagents for experiments.
- Organize and present scientific data to peers through internal and external platforms, including oral presentations, informal discussions, and written communications.
- Coordinate activities across team members and collaborating teams to ensure project advancement and success.
- Provide guidance and support to colleagues on the team, leveraging prior experience and scientific expertise.
- This position requires excellent communication skills, an ability to work independently and collaboratively, and occasional overtime on the weekend and after hours.
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD. in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, or related discipline, with 5+ years (B.S. with 14+ years; M.S. with 13+ years) of full-time laboratory experiences in a biological science discipline. Prior full-time laboratory experiences specific to human pluripotent stem cell biology and/or molecular genetics are strongly preferred.
- Knowledge in several of the following areas: genetics, molecular biology, stem cell biology, cell and developmental biology, regenerative medicine.
- Hands-on, wet lab experience with molecular biology/genetics techniques (PCR, NGS library prep) is required.
- Experience with hPSC culture, CRISPR/Cas-based genome engineering and bioinformatic analysis is strongly preferred.
