Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • At least five years of experience in heating and air conditioning-related fields is required.
  • A valid HVAC Journeyman license is required.
  • A current and valid driver’s license is required.
  • A Universal Refrigeration Certificate is preferred.
  • A Master HVAC license is preferred.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical is required.
  • The position requires mandatory drug testing and may require a Commercial Driver’s License.
  • The employee must be available to work evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and extended hours when operationally required.
  • The position requires working during inclement weather when necessary.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee, schedule, and direct a crew of three HVAC technicians at the Virginia Beach Recreation Center and other assigned buildings.
  • Perform daily physical building checks and use the building automation system to inspect HVAC equipment in the assigned zone.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and replace HVAC, refrigeration, cooking, pool, piping, ductwork, and related mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain and service commercial swimming pool pumps, filters, strainers, heat exchangers, chlorine tanks, and pool controls.
  • Replace compressors, air filters, belts, bearings, contactors, relays, fuses, and building automation components.
  • Review renovation plans, drawings, and specifications and provide comments and recommendations.
  • Communicate and coordinate with Recreation Center personnel, city employees, and citizens.
  • Prepare life-cycle analyses of HVAC equipment and estimate associated costs.
  • Conduct performance appraisals for HVAC technicians.
  • Schedule and monitor contractors’ work.
  • Attend pre-bid and pre-construction meetings.
  • Order and maintain repair-parts inventory to minimize HVAC equipment downtime.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Building Systems Engineer and Maintenance Engineer II.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Universal Refrigeration Certificate is preferred.
  • A Master HVAC license is preferred.
