Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited school of nursing, or an associate's degree from an accredited school of nursing with two additional years of nursing experience beyond the minimum requirement.
  • Three years of nursing experience.
  • An active Texas Registered Nurse license or compact licensure, with a permanent Texas license required within 60 days if establishing Texas residency.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association, or instructor certification.
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English sufficient to perform essential job functions affecting patient or employee safety or security.
  • Strong assessment, organizational, problem-solving, independent judgment, critical thinking, clinical judgment, therapeutic communication, and time-management skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products, including Outlook.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct professional nursing care to a diverse patient population with varied and complex needs.
  • Conduct nursing assessments, assist with examinations and treatment, and maintain medical records.
  • Coach and mentor department staff in clinical and professional practice, provide oversight for new employee preceptorships, and identify staff development opportunities.
  • Develop, update, communicate, implement, and evaluate patient-centered plans of care, including discharge and disposition planning, in partnership with patients, families, and the interprofessional healthcare team.
  • Provide patient and family teaching and adapt teaching methods based on comprehension and learning needs.
  • Lead department clinical activities, assess practice and improvement needs, serve as a clinical resource, and coordinate department education with management.
  • Provide care as the staff nurse leader for complex patients and lead the interprofessional healthcare team in implementing plans of care.
  • Recognize and resolve early declines in patient condition and emergent situations, manage complex patient assignments, and address department demands.
  • Identify practice-improvement opportunities, use research-based and evidence-based practices, and contribute to clinical standards, guidelines, policies, procedures, and patient-safety improvements.
  • Partner on quality and safety initiatives, report near misses, identify solutions, and promote situational awareness.
  • Manage time and priorities, support efficient resource utilization and budget needs, and implement department strategies to achieve financial targets.
  • Champion new care pathways and service-line implementations, identify trends, research changes, and present options to clinical leadership.
  • Develop and disseminate educational resources and programs that improve quality and professional practice.
  • Collaborate with RNs, non-licensed staff, physicians, patients, families, and interprofessional teams to foster healthy work relationships, mitigate conflict, and support teamwork.
