Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain NACI/CAC eligibility is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with emphasis in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program is required.
  • At least 5 years of structural engineering design experience, including at least 1 year on Federal or Department of Defense projects, is required.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing detailed analyses, drawings, and cost estimates for Department of Defense, NAVFAC, or large-scale commercial facilities is required.
  • Proficiency with structural modeling software, including STAAD Pro, SAP2000, and RAM, is required.
  • Knowledge of Department of Defense and Navy design standards, Unified Facilities Criteria, ASCE 7, the International Building Code, and federal design standards and requirements is required.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local codes and regulations related to building and structural design is required.
  • Experience with project budgeting, scheduling, and multidisciplinary coordination is required.
  • Ability to follow NAVFAC safety policies and use proper personal protective equipment during site visits and inspections is required.
  • Ability to meet the stated physical requirements, including standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, crouching, sitting, operating office equipment, using hands and arms, lifting up to 10 pounds, and communicating clearly in person and by telephone, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide specialized structural engineering support for planning, design, and construction of Navy and Marine Corps facilities.
  • Prepare and review structural calculations, design analyses, specifications, and construction drawings for concrete, steel, masonry, and timber structures.
  • Support development of project scopes, design documentation, and cost estimates for military construction, facility repair, and renovation projects.
  • Conduct field investigations, site assessments, and structural condition evaluations to identify required repairs or modifications.
  • Review design-build packages, contractor submittals, and shop drawings for technical accuracy and compliance with NAVFAC and Unified Facilities Criteria requirements.
  • Coordinate structural design with architectural, civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
  • Apply current Unified Facilities Criteria, Department of Defense, and ASCE standards to design deliverables.
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability assessments, and value engineering studies.
  • Provide technical support during construction, including responses to requests for information, design clarifications, and on-site problem resolution.
  • Prepare reports, design summaries, and technical recommendations for project managers.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's degree is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer registration in Civil or Structural Engineering is preferred.
  • Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office, STAAD Pro, RAM, and SAP2000.
