Requirements
  • A bachelor’s degree and 6–8 years of experience in editorial, journalism, public policy, communications, public relations, think tanks, philanthropy, advocacy, or a related field are required, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • A strong mix of editorial judgment, writing and editing expertise, strategic thinking, and project management is required.
  • Knowledge in one or more of the following areas is required: poverty, public benefits, care, tax policy, housing, or good jobs.
  • Exceptional writing and editing expertise, with attention to detail and a strong sense of voice, structure, tone, and audience, is required.
  • Ability to translate technical, academic, and/or policy-heavy work into clear, compelling, and accessible products such as publications, op-eds, events, speeches, and presentations is required.
  • Skill in developmental editing and helping others sharpen arguments, framing, and narrative flow is required.
  • Ability to synthesize complex ideas, identify patterns across issue areas, and bring clarity and structure to ambiguity is required.
  • Experience writing and editing about racial equity, structural barriers, and economic inequities with care, nuance, and attention to language, lived experience, and evolving norms is required.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and competing timelines in a highly organized and proactive manner is required.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and disciplines is required.
  • Ability to collaborate with researchers and policy experts and familiarity with policy, think tank, philanthropic, media, and/or advocacy ecosystems is required.
Responsibilities
  • Guide the development of editorial products and strategies that strengthen the Center on Poverty and Inequality’s ability to inform policy, shape public conversations, and advance its mission.
  • Ensure that the Center’s ideas reach and resonate with policymakers, practitioners, philanthropy, media, and broader audiences.
  • Transform complex ideas into clear, compelling, and people-centered products, including publications, data and analytical tools, events, convenings, speeches, video explainers, and educational materials.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director, Managing Director of Policy and Research, policy and research staff, fellows, and contractors.
  • Supervise one to two staff members and/or students, as needed.
