Charm Industrial captures carbon by turning agricultural residues into bio-oil through pyrolysis and then pumps the bio-oil deep underground where it solidifies, permanently storing CO2. This process uses agricultural waste as feedstock and creates a self-sustaining chemical reaction to convert biomass into a carbon-rich liquid, which is injected underground for long-term storage, reducing risks like wildfires, soil erosion, and land-use change. The company charges agricultural clients for converting their residues into bio-oil and storing it, offering end-to-end carbon capture and storage services. Unlike typical CCS firms that rely on industrial CO2 streams or dedicated geological projects, Charm Industrial focuses on readily available farm waste and provides a complete service from feedstock collection to underground sequestration. Its goal is to help customers cut their carbon footprints and contribute to lowering atmospheric CO2 levels over time.

  • Google expanded Charm purchases in January 2025, validating demand from hyperscalers.
  • Charm is scaling wildfire-fuel processing in Colorado, creating a durable feedstock advantage.

What critics are saying

  • Bio-oil CDR still depends on buyer trust in MRV, injection integrity, and long audits.
  • Charm's 2026 scale plan hinges on Colorado expansion and wildfire-feedstock logistics execution.
  • If regulators reject voluntary-market accounting, Charm's credit sales and offtake pipeline collapse.

What makes Charm Industrial unique

  • Charm Industrial's bio-oil injection stores carbon underground for geological timescales, not decades.
  • JPMorganChase renewed with 61,500 tons in 2026, bringing total purchases to 90,000 tons.
  • Charm published a prototype MRV protocol with Carbon Direct and EcoEngineers, strengthening credibility.

JPMorgan buys 61,500 tons of carbon removal from Charm Industrial, provides $20M facility

Charm Industrial has secured a 61,500-tonne carbon removal deal with JPMorganChase, bringing the bank's total purchases from the company to 90,000 metric tonnes of CO₂ equivalent. JPMorganChase has also provided a separate $20 million venture debt facility to support Charm's expansion. The San Francisco-based startup converts biomass into carbon-rich bio-oil and injects it underground for permanent storage. The new financing will help expand Charm's Colorado operations, including processing forest residues from wildfire mitigation projects. The deal represents one of the largest bilateral agreements for bio-oil carbon removal. The venture debt will support facility expansion at Charm's Fort Lupton site and create jobs for pyrolyser operators whilst addressing wildfire risks in the American West.

The Top 20 Agtech Deals Of 2023

Disclosure: AgFunderNews’ parent company is AgFunder. Agtech deals of 2023 followed much the same trajectory as other tech sectors, with lower valuations and far fewer mega-rounds than seen in the VC heyday of 2021 and early 2022. This year also saw a shift towards more investment in climate-focused solutions, hence the multiple waste-to-energy startups and carbon-related companies on the list below. Ag biotechnology, which includes the biologicals sector, was another strong category this year
