Requirements
  • Familiarity with United States Pharmacopeia chapters 795 and 800 is required.
  • Experience working in a compounding pharmacy is required.
  • Familiarity with Computer Rx pharmacy software is required.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy and compounding standard operating procedures is required.
  • Ability to teach and train pharmacy staff is required.
  • Fluency in pharmacy operating systems is required.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification is required.
  • Ability to manage inventory, independently lead projects, and provide software training and support is required.
  • Effective time management skills and a sense of urgency are required.
  • Ability to multitask in a stressful environment is required.
  • Good problem-solving abilities, ability to focus in a busy environment, and high attention to detail are required.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills are required.
  • Ability to work with hazardous drugs while wearing required personal protective equipment is required.
  • Medical approval to wear respiratory protection, including N95, full-face respirators, supplied-air self-contained breathing apparatus, or powered air-purifying respirators, is required.
  • Ability to walk, stand, squat, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds during shifts of up to twelve hours is required.
  • Willingness to acknowledge the potential teratogenic, carcinogenic, and reproductive risks of handling hazardous drugs is required.
Responsibilities
  • Manage the daily operations of the compounding laboratories within the pharmacy.
  • Support the scale-up of compounding capabilities and participate as a stakeholder in developing new compounded treatments.
  • Dispense medication in accordance with federal and state pharmacy regulations while maximizing quality and patient safety.
  • Directly manage compounding technicians, including PTO requests, performance management, time management, and annual reviews.
  • Train new compounding technicians on equipment and processes used in the compounding suites.
  • Operate within the daily activities of the pharmacy as needed.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for equipment in the compounding suites and work with suppliers to optimize equipment output with support from Technical Services.
  • Partner with Quality Operations and the Pharmacist in Charge to ensure compound quality and employee safety.
  • Organize, track, and maintain documentation for the compounding suites, including environmental controls, scale calibrations, and hood certifications.
  • Apply applicable regulatory requirements to maintain compliance.
  • Support the development of compounding initiatives.
  • Staff the non-sterile laboratories as needed at the highest level of competency.
  • Ensure training materials and knowledge or competency assessment verifications are completed promptly.
  • Ensure timely completion of standard operating procedures with regulatory oversight from subject matter experts and the Pharmacist in Charge.
