Requirements
  • Minimum of 10 years of legal experience through a combination of law firm and/or in-house counsel serving as labor and employment counsel.
  • Thorough understanding of federal and state employment laws.
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed in the State where you are located.
  • Experience evaluating employment practices, policies, and processes to ensure compliance.
  • Experience drafting employee handbooks, human resources policies, offer letters, and employment and employment-related agreements, including severance, separation, and retention agreements.
  • Experience investigating and responding to employment claims, demand letters, administrative agency charges, audits, subpoenas, etc.
  • Skilled in handling and/or managing employment litigation.
  • Experience developing and conducting training and education programs for employees and managers.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and manage projects with a team-oriented approach.
  • Highly organized and driven to strategically, proactively, and practically solve legal issues using risk-balanced approach.
  • Knowledge of immigration laws, regulations, and processes.
Responsibilities
  • Provide counsel and advice on a broad spectrum of labor and employment law issues.
  • Address compensation and benefits; pay equity, employment classification, and wage and hour laws.
  • Support talent acquisition; recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, background checks, and contingent workers.
  • Assist in training and performance management.
  • Handle privacy, discrimination, and harassment issues.
  • Promote inclusion and diversity initiatives.
  • Manage sick leave, leaves of absences, and accommodations.
  • Conduct employee relations investigations.
  • Oversee terminations and reductions in force.
  • Retain outside counsel and manage litigation.
  • Ensure employee safety and manage international travel.
  • Serve as lead on immigration matters partnering with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Address employment-related aspects of mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence.
  • Support the Group 1001 core values and People and Culture objectives as Sr. Employment Counsel.
Desired Qualifications
  • Employee benefit plan and ERISA experience is helpful but not required.
