- A high school diploma or GED, or 10 years of work experience, is required.
- For Wisconsin, graduation from a medical assistant school or training program, or an education equivalency for certification, is required.
- No prior experience is required.
- Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
- One approved medical assistant certification is required, including Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, Clinical Medical Assistant Certification, Medical Assistant, Medical Assistant Certification, National Certified Medical Assistant, Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant, or Registered Medical Assistant certifications.
- Candidates must be comfortable providing hands-on patient care.
- Candidates must be able to maintain constant standing and walking, perform frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, gripping, keyboard use, and data entry, and occasionally lift or move patients.
- Candidates must work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
- Assist with provider-ordered treatments under the supervision of a provider or registered nurse and perform select clinical duties.
- Interview patients, measure vital signs, record information in patient charts, and prepare treatment rooms for examinations.
- Perform basic clerical duties, including answering phones, maintaining records, scheduling patients, and filing.
- Order and stock supplies and help maintain a clean and orderly environment.
- Document provider encounters with patients when required, including diagnoses, symptoms, follow-up instructions, and prescriptions.
- Transcribe provider orders for laboratory tests, radiology tests, and medications.
- Perform other assigned duties.
- Experience and expertise are preferred.
