  • Strong academic record in at least two STEAHM-related fields.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to supervise children of all ages.

  • Willingness to open and close the Luna facility where the program is held when necessary.
  • Ability to use language suitable for the age group.
  • General aptitude or interest in the STEAHM pillars: Science, Sociology, Technology, Trades, Engineering, Art, Allied Health, Humanities, Math, and Medicine.
  • Ability to use basic hand tools, scientific laboratory equipment, and digital software.
  • Ability to simplify complex concepts for K-12 age groups.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, move between classrooms, laboratories, shops, and outdoor field sites, and lift up to 25 pounds of project materials or equipment.
  • Must successfully pass Luna Community College’s Background Clearance process for working with minors.
Responsibilities
  • Manage and facilitate an after-school program with a focus on STEAHM-based lessons.
  • Help students execute complex projects such as engineering builds, artistic creations, and scientific experiments.
  • Design age-appropriate activities for students enrolled in the program.
  • Enroll students in the program using the provided enrollment packet.
  • Take weekly attendance of students attending the program and share this information with the Rough Rider Mentorship Program Director.
  • Evaluate students at the end of each semester and complete and submit the required co-curricular assessment forms by the specified deadlines.
  • Travel occasionally to the main campus in Las Vegas to pick up supplies and snacks.
  • Post informative communication about the program.
  • Call parents when necessary about program or student matters.
  • Open and close the Luna facility where the program is held.
  • Prepare requisitions for purchase or memos for items needed for the program when necessary.
  • Make phone calls and perform other administrative tasks necessary to conduct weekly lessons and promote the program.
  • Facilitate breakout groups of K-12 students and ensure they understand project steps and safety protocols.
  • Provide vigilant oversight during hands-on activities and ensure that students follow safety guidelines.
  • Set up, tear down, and maintain materials for daily experiments and activities across the STEAHM spectrum.
  • Identify students struggling with specific concepts and provide one-on-one, in-the-moment tutoring and mentoring to keep them on track with the group project.
  • Coordinate annual open enrollment, including system configuration and employee communication.
  • Encourage student curiosity and participation and serve as a positive role model for younger students exploring higher education environments.
  • Report attendance and co-curricular assessment information and provide feedback to the Program Director on project efficacy.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with K-12 children, such as camp counselor, coach, or tutor experience.
