Requirements
  • Proven experience (10+ years) in software R&D leadership roles, preferably within the retail or enterprise software industry.
  • Deep understanding of modern software development practices and technologies.
  • Familiarity and experience with the Canadian SRED (Scientific Research and Experimental Development) program.
  • Experience with older technologies such as Delphi and COBOL, as well as newer technologies such as .NET Core and React, with an ability to guide the transition to modern platforms.
  • A strong track record of successfully managing complex R&D projects, including those involving offshore and onshore teams.
  • Proficiency in English and French to effectively communicate with development staff across Canada and offshore.
  • Demonstrated ability to suggest and implement innovative solutions and experimental methodologies.
  • Excellent organizational, managerial, and leadership skills.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities and the ability to think creatively under pressure.
  • Enthusiastic, motivated, and capable of inspiring teams to achieve their best work.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee the entire product development lifecycle, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and respecting highest quality standard.
  • Translate business goals and product requirements into actionable development plans.
  • Strategically plan, direct, and control product development activities, contributing technical insights to the overall business strategy.
  • Scan the competitive landscape to identify differentiators and market gaps.
  • Manage, mentor, and inspire an R&D team across onshore and offshore locations, fostering productivity, teamwork, and professional growth.
  • Plan, communicate, and coach for the leadership development of the R&D team.
  • Foster accountability within the department, ensuring each team member takes ownership of their responsibilities.
  • Ensure compliance with the Canadian SRED program, identifying eligible projects to maximize R&D tax credits.
  • Own all financial aspects of the R&D team, including forecasting, reconciliation, analysis, and delivering actionable insights.
  • Foster effective communication across all functional departments to achieve collaborative success.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance for all product development needs within the organization.
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance the organizational structure, methodologies, and technologies to boost productivity and implement changes as needed.
  • Understand and manage legacy technologies (e.g., Delphi, COBOL) while driving modernization initiatives using technologies like .NET Core and React.
  • Communicate emerging industry trends and technologies that can provide Acceo Retail Solutions with a competitive advantage.
  • Manage strategic partnerships with vendors and suppliers to ensure productive collaborations.
  • Drive the development and execution of product roadmaps to secure long-term success and mitigate competitive risks.
  • Serve as a liaison between customers and internal departments (Sales, Professional Services, Support Services) to align development with customer needs.
