Geico is seeking a paralegal to support the transactional or corporate practices of the GEICO Legal Department. Some areas to be supported include commercial and technology contracting, real estate, or other transactional or advice practices. Substantive support may include reviewing third-party contracts, communicating with internal or external stakeholders, drafting deal memos, or conducting a variety of legal research. This individual will work independently and effectively collaborate with a project team. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with strong attention to detail, produces excellent work product, and thinks strategically.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide support to a specialized area within the Legal Department using a high degree of analytical, communication and organizational skills
Research and resolve issues and matters which may involve substantial legal or factual complexity, through detailed research and examination of documentation and factual investigation
Present recommendations and exercise some independent judgement while developing specialty expertise
Prepare agreements, documents, and provide research and background information under the direction of an attorney
Collaborate, consult, and provide information with Legal Department attorneys and staff, outside counsel and collaborate with line of business
Be able to identify specific as well as broad, underlying issues in area of expertise and work independently on complex assignments without direct supervision.
Handle paralegal assignments related to other areas of the law
Required Qualifications:
4+ years of paralegal experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Ability to work in a fast-paced deadline driven environment
Strong research skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy
Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills
Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
Intermediate Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) skills
Curiosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn new legal and regulatory areas
Leadership skills including an ability to lead large initiatives and collaborate effectively with project teams
Preferred 2+ years experience supporting vendor or real estate contract review including researching and redlining contracts
Preferred 2+ years of legal data review and legal research experience
Location: Hybrid – This position requires the individual to work onsite, 3 days out of the Chevy Chase, MD office.
Annual Salary
$116,000.00 - $182,000.00
The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
