Requirements
  • An Associate’s degree in Nursing is required; under New York State BSN in 10 Law, a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or higher must be attained within 10 years of initial licensure, subject to the stated grandfathering provisions.
  • Current registration to practice as a Licensed Registered Nurse in New York State is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • The role requires excellent communication skills.
Responsibilities
  • Accurately collect clinical data on patients, perform clinical interventions competently, and report abnormalities to the medical provider.
  • Triage patient phone calls and troubleshoot medication management issues.
  • Answer phones, assemble charts, register patients, make appointments, and perform computer data entry and retrieve reports.
  • Safely perform patient care responsibilities in accordance with professional standards and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Develop and organize a plan of care in consultation with the treating physician and applicable department subspecialties.
  • Determine and set priorities effectively to meet patient needs.
  • Provide accurate documentation of patient care in the patient medical record.
  • Coordinate services or accommodations, such as sign language interpreters, to support communication with treating providers and patients who are hearing- or visually impaired or who have language barriers.
  • Ensure patients receive timely and appropriate care and facilitate internal and external referrals.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and contrast agents according to physician orders and document them in the patient record.
  • Maintain infection control precautions and identify potential infection control problems.
  • Provide in-service education to interdisciplinary team members within the department.
  • Participate in department quality assurance activities.
  • Participate in annual recertification, compliance, HIPAA, and other mandatory in-service training programs.
  • Conform to policies and regulations governing patient rights and confidentiality of information.
  • Perform other related duties assigned by management.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is preferred.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is preferred.
