Requirements
  • A valid Alberta Journeyman Electrician ticket or Red Seal Certification is required.
  • Four or more years of experience within residential or commercial construction projects is preferred.
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license is required.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel is required.
  • The ability to work in a variety of conditions is required.
  • A CSO (Common Safety Orientation) certificate is required.
  • WHMIS 2015 certification is required.
  • The applicant must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • The applicant must be able to pass a comprehensive drug, alcohol, and physical demand assessment.
  • The applicant must be able to speak, read, and write fluently in English.
Responsibilities
  • Follow procedures defined in the Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatuses, and fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatuses, and components using test equipment and hand tools, locate breakdown causes, and correct problems.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, and other components.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and adjustment or repair needs and ensure code compliance.
  • Advise management whether continued equipment operation could be hazardous.
  • Test electrical systems and circuit continuity in wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices such as multimeters and megohmmeters.
  • Use power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, including multimeters and megohmmeters.
  • Install ground leads and connect power cables to motors, transformers, circuit breaker panels, and disconnects.
  • Repair or replace wiring, equipment, and fixtures using hand tools and power tools.
  • Read and interpret electrical, mechanical, and architectural drawings and electrical code specifications to determine wiring layouts.
  • Cut, thread, bend, assemble, and install conduits and other electrical conductor enclosures and fittings.
  • Position, maintain, and install distribution and control equipment such as switches, relays, circuit breaker panels, and fuse enclosures.
  • Install and insulate self-regulating heat trace and test it with a multimeter and megohmmeter.
  • Lock out electrical systems for all trades using Lockout/Tagout procedures.
  • Assist laborers, carpenters, and plumbers and perform other duties as required by supervision.
