Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Less than five years of post-degree engineering experience.
  • Practical experience using computer-aided design software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret-level security clearance and access to the Arnold Engineering Development Complex local area network.
  • U.S. citizenship is required for employment at Arnold Engineering Development Complex.
Responsibilities
  • Develop concepts for power requirements of new equipment, electrical power requirements for renovated buildings, power distribution, and other analyses supporting proposed designs, and evaluate results against applicable codes and standards.
  • Provide engineering support to craft personnel for maintenance and repair of existing systems, and evaluate existing systems for safety, security, and potential improvements.
  • Work with engineers, architects, drafters, checkers, and other design-team members to produce complete design packages, including detailed drawings, analysis reports, and equipment specifications, and communicate package details to the project team.
  • Coordinate with system engineers, craft supervisors, and work planners to ensure hardware is fabricated and installed according to the approved design package.
  • Produce electrical drawings, including equipment layouts, single-line diagrams, conduit and cable-tray routing, and wiring and schematic diagrams.
  • Prepare specifications, estimates, and scopes of work.
  • Present or support in-house design reviews at project milestones.
  • Participate in design reviews of documents produced by design-build subcontractors, provide comments, and identify discrepancies between subcontractor designs and project requirements.
  • Design electrical equipment interface and installation details for review by senior personnel.
  • Wear personal protective equipment in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
  • Perform other duties as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Technical knowledge of engineering systems, engineering calculations, applications of engineering methods, and construction methods and materials for engineering problems.
  • Knowledge of major industry or regulatory standards and design criteria pertinent to the electrical engineering discipline.
  • Coursework or experience with three-phase electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Active Department of Defense Secret clearance.
