Requirements
  • Completion of formal Radiological Technology training in an American Medical Association-approved school is required.
  • An Associates Degree is required.
  • Current certification with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists is required.
  • A current Vermont radiology license is required.
  • Continuing education credits are required for the applicable modality.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Ongoing continuing education is required by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and state regulations.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise and knowledge of current imaging equipment, procedures, and quality assurance practices are required.
  • Experience mentoring students or training staff in clinical imaging techniques is required.
  • Good interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and mathematical skills are required.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily radiographic operations in the hospital, clinics, and Operating Room to ensure high-quality, safe, and efficient imaging services.
  • Perform diagnostic radiographic procedures across multiple modalities, including X-ray, CAT scan, Mammography, MRI, and Ultrasound, in accordance with departmental protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead onboarding and training for new employees, students, and travelers, with emphasis on provider imaging preferences.
  • Review and evaluate images to determine whether they are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
  • Operate portable equipment in the Operating Room and at the bedside as necessary.
  • Explain procedures, observe patients for safety and comfort, assist with dressing and changing patients, and coordinate with staff to provide appropriate patient care.
  • Practice radiation safety measures and use protection devices to comply with regulations and ensure patient and staff safety.
  • Set up examination rooms, ensure equipment readiness, maintain cleanliness and order, and follow infection-control practices.
  • Assist with record keeping, answer phones, schedule appointments, and prepare changes.
  • Prepare and administer oral contrast according to department protocol, monitor patient conditions and reactions, and report abnormal signs to the radiologist or Emergency Department.
  • Transport patients to examination rooms and other hospital areas and prepare and maintain examination rooms.
  • Practice sterile techniques when required by the procedure.
  • Report hazardous conditions or equipment breakdowns to the responsible supervisor.
  • Follow department and hospital protocols for use of the Picture Archiving and Communication System and hospital computer system.
  • Request and order supplies as necessary to maintain adequate inventory.
  • Coordinate the work schedule with the Department Director to ensure workload coverage and follow hospital and department policies and the code of conduct.
  • Meet the psychosocial needs of patients and adapt care appropriately for neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
  • Assist with quality-control and quality-assurance programs, including imaging audits, and participate in quality-control projects.
  • Collaborate with Operating Room staff and leadership to monitor surgical schedules, communicate real-time changes, and allocate Radiology resources for scheduled, add-on, and urgent cases.
  • Partner with radiologists, providers, and staff to accommodate provider preferences and workflow needs while maintaining protocol compliance and patient safety.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot imaging equipment, ensure readiness for clinical use, and coordinate maintenance or repairs.
  • Support staff development through performance feedback, coaching, and professional guidance.
  • Assist the Radiology Manager or Director with operational planning, workflow optimization, and quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison between technologists, radiologists, providers, and management to promote communication, patient-centered care, and operational efficiency.
  • Monitor adherence to departmental policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements, address deviations, and provide education as needed.
  • Participate in special projects, process-improvement initiatives, and cross-functional teams as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science is preferred.
  • Advanced certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists for expansion into computed tomography and/or magnetic resonance imaging is preferred.
  • Registration by the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography for ultrasound is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience with leadership or supervisory experience is preferred.
