Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge of cardiac anatomy, arrhythmias, cardiac medications, procedural supplies, and equipment.
- Clinical expertise in cardiac care and understanding of electrophysiology principles.
- Proficiency in patient assessment, documentation, medication administration, and emergency response.
- Ability to perform conscious sedation safely during device implants when directed.
- Strong communication skills for patient education and collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Ability to work independently in a high-stress environment while maintaining safety.
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree is required if the candidate does not have a Master of Science in Nursing degree.
- Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Alabama or through the Nurse Licensure Compact.
- Current Basic Life Support certification.
- Two years of experience as a registered nurse in an acute-care setting.
Responsibilities
- Circulate and monitor cardiac procedures and assist with cardiac arrhythmia procedures, catheter ablations, and implantation of cardiac devices.
- Apply sterile techniques and collaborate with electrophysiologists, anesthesiologists, cardiac technologists, and other disciplines to ensure patient safety and efficiency.
- Assess, document, and critically evaluate patients before, during, and after procedures, including monitoring cardiac status.
- Assist anesthesia with sedation and perform conscious sedation during device implants when directed.
- Coordinate laboratory tests with providers, monitor laboratory results, and report findings.
- Respond to cardiac emergencies, including arrhythmias and procedural complications.
- Share 24/7 accountability with the Nursing Operations Manager.
- Participate in recruitment and selection of new unit team members through interviews, peer selection, and candidate evaluation.
- Coordinate with the Nursing Operations Manager and Human Resources on corrective action, progressive discipline, and career advancement.
- Investigate event reports and provide feedback to the Nursing Operations Manager and team members.
- Oversee unit schedules to ensure appropriate staffing levels and skill mix for each shift.
- Oversee patient flow and intervene as needed to achieve expected outcomes.
- Perform Nurse Leader rounds and reviews to identify variances from nursing best practices and regulatory or hospital standards.
- Participate in process and quality improvement initiatives to improve outcomes and standard work.
- Ensure that team members uphold the customer experience and provide service recovery to patients and families as needed.
- Educate patients and families, promote participation in patient care, and coordinate nursing activities.
- Participate in or lead staff meetings, GEMBA boards, and huddles, with ownership of unit outcomes.
- Perform direct patient care activities as required to meet operational needs.
- Ensure incident reports are completed appropriately and follow up on event reports.
- Maintain regular, punctual attendance and compliance with applicable organizational policies and procedures.
Desired Qualifications
- A Master of Science in Nursing degree.
- A Doctor of Nursing Practice degree.
- A Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree with a graduate degree in Business or a health-related field.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification, Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification, Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification, or Trauma Nurse Core Course certification, depending on the assigned patient population.
