Requirements
  • At least 15 years of progressive engineering experience in data center design, large-scale infrastructure, hyperscale computing environments, or industrial power systems, with increasing scope across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Demonstrated ability to architect and optimize across electrical power systems, mechanical and thermal systems, compute infrastructure, and facility design.
  • Working knowledge of power generation and distribution, cooling technologies including direct liquid cooling, data center facility design, and compute and networking infrastructure.
  • Experience leading technology evaluations, feasibility studies, or architectural explorations that informed future product or infrastructure direction, including engagement with startups, research institutions, and emerging technology providers.
  • Experience authoring system-level architecture documents, interface specifications, and integration standards for complex multidisciplinary programs.
  • Proven ability to influence and align engineering teams across organizational boundaries without direct authority and drive technical consensus across disciplines with competing priorities.
  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to engineering peers and executive leadership.
Responsibilities
  • Lead the development of next-generation data center reference architectures integrating electrical, mechanical, thermal, and compute domains.
  • Evaluate how emerging technologies reshape design assumptions and define the architectural path from pilot-scale validation through hyperscale deployment.
  • Continuously scan the industry for emerging technologies, vendor capabilities, and evolving standards that could affect data center architecture.
  • Lead structured full-system evaluations of candidate technologies, assessing point performance, broader infrastructure integration, and scalability from prototype to production.
  • Define and maintain the systems-level architecture governing how infrastructure layers interface and co-optimize.
  • Ensure coherence across engineering disciplines and prevent design decisions in one domain from creating constraints elsewhere.
  • Guide emerging technologies from initial evaluation and bench-scale testing through pilot deployment, production validation, and hyperscale rollout.
  • Define the technical criteria and milestones that determine readiness at each progression stage.
  • Serve as the principal technical voice within the research and development organization on infrastructure architecture.
  • Drive feasibility assessments, lead pilot-program design reviews, and provide senior technical input on go/no-go decisions for emerging technologies.
  • Author high-level system specifications, interface control documents, and design standards for future platform development.
  • Translate research and development findings into actionable engineering guidance for production teams.
  • Partner with engineering teams across the company as the research and development organization's primary technical interface.
  • Share technology-evaluation insights, translate domain-specific decisions into system-wide implications, and align research and development outputs with infrastructure deployment needs.
  • Build and maintain technical relationships with industry providers, emerging startups, original equipment manufacturers, academic research groups, and national laboratories.
  • Evaluate vendor and partner roadmaps, test claims, and identify opportunities for early access to next-generation technologies and collaborative development.
  • Partner with research and development and company leadership on technology choices supporting long-term growth strategy.
  • Help shape the company's perspective on industry direction and strategic positioning.
Desired Qualifications
  • An advanced degree is preferred but not required.
  • Direct experience at a hyperscale company in a systems architecture or principal engineering role.
  • Experience with modular or containerized data center design and deployment.
  • Familiarity with direct-current power distribution architectures.
  • Experience with high-performance computing and graphics processing unit-accelerated artificial intelligence infrastructure at scale.
  • Background in mission-critical facility design with an understanding of redundancy, reliability, and availability engineering.

Crusoe, a cloud-computing provider and data center developer doing business with OpenAI, Microsoft Corp. and Meta Platforms Inc., has raised over $3 billion in a funding round that values the startup at roughly $30 billion, according to people familiar with the situation.

Crusoe plans $1B expansion of Google-linked Texas data centre with two new buildings

Crusoe has registered two additional data-centre buildings at its Goodnight campus near Claude, Texas, with estimated construction costs totalling $1 billion, according to state filings. The buildings would add approximately 1.61 million square feet to the Armstrong County development, also known as Project Llano. Each single-storey structure is planned at roughly 805,380 square feet, with multiple data halls, office space and support areas. Public reporting has linked Google to the campus development through intermediary Ensign Infrastructure. Building 3 is scheduled for completion on 1 August, whilst Building 4 has a March 2027 completion date. Power plans include grid-supplied electricity and potential on-site generation, with a natural-gas plant proposal for up to 933 MW capacity. Separately, Crusoe announced a partnership with Aalo Atomics to examine modular nuclear generation for future data centres.

Crusoe and ON.energy to deploy 5GW of AI UPS™ across multiple hyperscale campuses

Crusoe and ON.energy have announced a partnership to deploy 5 gigawatts of AI UPS™ technology across multiple hyperscale campuses, with commissioning starting in 2026 and continuing into 2027. AI data centres create unprecedented grid challenges. During training, thousands of GPUs ramp up and down in synchronised bursts, causing power demand fluctuations hundreds to thousands of times daily. These load swings can propagate through interconnection points into transmission systems. ON.energy's patented AI UPS™ is a medium-voltage uninterruptible power system that sits between power sources and data centres. It decouples facilities from the grid, protecting equipment during voltage faults whilst preventing GPU load swings from affecting the grid. The technology has been validated against ERCOT's Large Load Interconnection requirements, meeting grid stability and voltage ride-through standards.

Crusoe and Lancium to build 1GW AI data centre campus in Texas

Crusoe and Lancium announced a 1.0 gigawatt AI data centre campus in Childress, Texas. The grid-connected facility will span 270 acres owned by Lancium, which will develop and manage the site's energy infrastructure, whilst Crusoe will design, build and operate the data centre. Construction is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2026, creating thousands of construction jobs and over 100 permanent positions. The campus will support deployment of hundreds of thousands of advanced AI accelerators for training or inference. This marks the second site using the same partnership structure between the companies, following their collaboration in Abilene. The development will feature closed-loop, non-evaporative liquid cooling systems and behind-the-metre solar and energy storage resources.

Crusoe launches serverless fine-tuning and self-serve inference for open AI models

Crusoe, an AI infrastructure company, has launched Serverless Fine-Tuning and Self-Serve Deployments in its Crusoe Intelligence Foundry platform. The new capabilities allow data scientists and ML engineers to customise open-source AI models with proprietary data and deploy them to production without managing infrastructure. Serverless Fine-Tuning enables teams to launch fine-tuning jobs through a simple interface, selecting from curated open-weight models and uploading custom datasets. Jobs run on distributed AI-optimised infrastructure with automated recovery. Completed model weights are provided in portable format and can be deployed immediately or downloaded for external use. Self-Serve Deployments offer production-grade inference on NVIDIA H100 or H200 GPUs, billed per GPU hour. Teams can deploy models directly from fine-tuning workflows or select base models optimised for throughput or responsiveness. Both features will be generally available next week.
