Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current CPR certification upon hire or completion within the 90-day probation period.
  • Ability to use a multi-line phone system, including transferring calls and using a paging system.
  • Skill in using office equipment including fax machines, scanners, copiers, computers, and telephone systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask.
  • Basic knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and email applications.
  • Basic knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT codes.
  • Knowledge of major payer payment provisions and policies.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods and type efficiently.
  • Visual and hearing acuity within normal range, with or without correction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, including frequent telephone use, and monitor the physical environment for patient, visitor, and staff safety.
  • Ability to safely follow patient-handling procedures and use provided patient lift equipment when required.
Responsibilities
  • Obtain demographic and insurance information accurately for preregistration and intake processes.
  • Register rehabilitation series patients according to admission standards.
  • Determine eligibility and benefits for requested services, verify insurance coverage, and communicate results to patients.
  • Obtain insurance authorization and communicate visit and treatment dates with treating therapists.
  • Monitor authorized-visit reports and notify treating therapists when additional authorization is required.
  • Communicate authorization numbers and treatment dates to the business office.
  • Participate in denial management by seeking retro-authorization when indicated and communicating results to the business office.
  • Obtain physician signatures for Medicare Plan of Care certification and recertification, monitor signature status, and communicate status to the business office.
  • Schedule patients, maintain and update therapist schedules in the electronic scheduling system, and coordinate multi-service appointments.
  • Manage patient files and hard-copy forms.
  • Obtain physician orders as needed.
  • Perform assigned clerical duties.
  • Perform outpatient reception duties, greet patients, and notify therapists of patient arrivals.
  • Direct self-pay patients who may qualify for charity care to the Patient Representative.
  • Order base non-salary office supplies within budget guidelines.

  • Prior experience with electronic patient scheduling.
