  • Completed high school plus the required cooking course.
  • Completed a six-month cooking course.
  • Up to three months of prior related experience, including institutional kitchen experience or equivalent.
  • Ability to frequently stand, manipulate food, lift more than 50 pounds, cut, chop, carry supplies, and walk.
  • Ability to prepare food, read recipes, follow safety procedures and regulations, and occasionally order supplies.
  • Ability to work weekends and early mornings.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% of the time.
  • Ability to follow universal precautions and use rubber mats, freezer coats, gloves, protective masks as needed, and other required safety measures.
  • WHMIS training, valid First Aid/CPR certification, Criminal Record Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training are required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Cook in preparing meals, including dietary meals.
  • Follow work practices to ensure efficient delivery of food services.
  • Follow policy on the use of donated foods.
  • Place orders for food supplies when required.
  • Organize food-service work in the absence of the Food Services Manager and Cook.
  • Clean the kitchen and kitchen equipment.
  • Keep simple records and complete incident reports as necessary.
  • Demonstrate work methods to new employees and give direction to meal attendants when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
