LAPD investigates Nicolas Cage movie that went missing at Netflix.

LAPD investigates Nicolas Cage movie that went missing at Netflix. Aug. 21, 2026 at 3:49 pm Los Angeles Times LOS ANGELES - A dispute between a producer and Netflix over a missing copy of a World War II spy drama starring Nicolas Cage has now reached the Los Angeles Police Department. A law firm representing producer Simon Afram filed a report with the Hollywood Community Police Station, accusing Netflix of losing a drive with a copy of his World War II film, "Fortitude" last month and not providing information on the streamer's investigation into the issue. "This report is being made on an emergency basis, as there is reason to believe that Netflix, Inc. and its employees are suppressing and/or spoliating evidence of the theft of an asset with a cost of $45 million to create and a likely sale value of over twice that amount," according to Afram's complaint which was viewed by The Times. The complaint, filed July 15, asks for law enforcement to investigate the movie's theft and "identify all responsible parties, preserve all relevant evidence, and press charges against the responsible parties." Netflix declined to comment on Afram's complaint to police. Afram and his production company sued Netflix last month for at least $105 million in economic damages for the missing drive that contained "Fortitude," a movie starring Cage and Sir Ben Kingsley. The film, described as "Ocean's Eleven" meets "Inglourious Basterds," is based on Operation Fortitude, an effort during World War II in which double agents set a trap for Adolf Hitler and his armies. On June 15, Daniel Haido, an associate producer of "Fortitude," dropped off an unencrypted copy of the movie for Netflix to view, according to the lawsuit. On June 25, Netflix informed Haido the drive had been stolen, the lawsuit said. "Unfortunately, someone stole a good amount of drives from our office desks this past week," Sean Berney, a director for original film at Netflix, wrote in a June 25 email, according to the lawsuit. "We've been working through this with our security teams to no luck." Advertising Berney in his email offered to reimburse Afram's company for the missing drive or create a new digital cinema package, but Afram said the damage was much greater than that, according to the lawsuit. "It is not fathomable that a sophisticated buyer would invest tens of millions of dollars to acquire the Film - and tens of millions more to market it - while facing the constant risk that it could appear online to be viewed widely for free at any time," Afram's lawsuit said. Netflix said in a statement last month that it is conducting an investigation and is offering to monitor piracy sites for any authorized distribution or sale of the film. "Netflix disputes any claim that it bears the risk of loss for a film delivered without the proper industry-standard safeguards," the company said in a statement last month. "While we do not own the rights to 'Fortitude,' we take content security seriously and have taken extra measures to support the filmmaker and his team." The streamer said it has not shared information on its investigation with Afram's law firm, accusing the firm of "hostile attempts to extort money from Netflix over this situation - including immediately demanding $165 million for the film rather than work with us in good faith." Earlier this month, Afram added a defamation claim to his lawsuit against Netflix. "Netflix's statement that Mr. Afram and his attorneys attempted to extort money from Netflix is entirely false, as are the purported facts on which Netflix based this false statement," according to his amended lawsuit. South Indian content is Netflix's focus in 2026. We've already seen the debut of half of the slate of Tamil and Telugu Originals Netflix previously revealed, and the streamer surprised us with another new Original Tamil movie coming August 21: Pyaar Prema Kalyanam ("Love Love Wedding"). With this new addition the catalogue, Netflix is scheduled to release at least one new Tamil, Telugu, or Malayalam movie - both Originals and theatrical acquisitions - every week for the rest of 2026. Pyaar Prema Kalyanam is a spiritual sequel to 2018's Pyaar Prema Kaadhal ("Love Love Love", which is not on Netflix), the directorial debut of writer and lyricist Elan. He directs the sequel as well, and also steps in front of the camera to star in this new film about an unusual living arrangement. After marriage, an Indian bride traditionally moves into the home shared by her husband and his parents. In Pyaar Prema Kalyanam, the husband moves in with his wife and her parents. Elan shares his hopes for the film: Get the latest Netflix news, reviews, and releases in your inbox. With Pyaar Prema Kalyanam, we wanted to tell a story that feels familiar yet refreshingly different. The trailer offers a glimpse into a marriage that challenges long-held expectations while celebrating the love, laughter and togetherness that make every family unique. Making my acting debut with a story so close to my heart has been incredibly special, and I can't wait for audiences across the world to experience it on Netflix." Pyaar Prema Kalyanam is produced by Sreenidhi Sagar for Rise East Entertainment, the studio behind the Netflix Original Tamil movie Made in Korea. The film is written by debutant screenwriter Nivedita Pohankar, with music by composer Yuvan Shankar Raja (Maareesan). What is the plot of Pyaar Prema Kalyanam? Here's how Netflix describes this wholesome family flick: The film follows Pavi (Saanvee Meghana), a popular influencer who refuses to leave her family home after marriage. Instead, it's her husband, Elan, who moves in with her, setting off a hilarious chain of culture clashes, family chaos, shifting expectations, and heartfelt self-discovery. This is her second Netflix Original project, having previously played the title character in the segment "Ramula" from the 2021 Telugu anthology Pitta Kathalu. Elan plays Elan, Pavi's new husband. Other key cast members include: * Radhika Sarathkumar (Revolver Rita) * Yogi Babu (Navarasa) * M.S. Bhaskar (Kara) * Geetha Kailasam (Dear) * Senthil (Indian) Pyaar Prema Kalyanam has a runtime of 2 hours 6 minutes and a TV-14 rating in the US for language and smoking. Boeing (BA) stock; $5.6 billion market cap wiped out as safety scrutiny intensifies.

Boeing (BA) stock; $5.6 billion market cap wiped out as safety scrutiny intensifies. Boeing shares tumble as renewed safety scrutiny threatens investor confidence despite improving financial and operational performance TLDRs; * Boeing stock fell 3.2%, wiping approximately $5.6 billion from its market capitalization amid renewed safety scrutiny. * A new Netflix documentary revived whistleblower allegations as Boeing continues efforts to rebuild confidence in its safety culture. * FAA inspections affect 471 U.S.-registered 737 MAX aircraft, but potential production disruption represents the larger investor concern. * Boeing's improving revenue, deliveries, cash flow and record backlog offer investors reasons to remain optimistic despite renewed scrutiny. Boeing (BA) stock came under renewed pressure on Thursday as shares dropped 3.2%, erasing approximately $5.6 billion from the aerospace giant's market capitalization and closing at $215.10. The decline came as fresh attention turned toward Boeing's long-running safety challenges following the release of a new Netflix documentary examining whistleblower allegations involving the company's past safety culture. At the same time, investors are weighing a new Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspection directive affecting 737 MAX aircraft. While the latest developments do not necessarily point to a major new financial burden for Boeing, they highlight a more difficult issue for the company: rebuilding investor and public confidence while simultaneously increasing aircraft production and strengthening cash flow. Safety scrutiny returns. Netflix released Freefall: A Reckoning for Boeing on August 19, bringing allegations from former employees back into the spotlight. The documentary examines claims that cost pressures and internal practices contributed to safety failures. Those allegations remain unproven, and Boeing continues to emphasize its efforts to improve safety and corporate culture. However, the renewed public attention arrives at a sensitive point for the company as it attempts to convince investors that its operational recovery is durable. Boeing's 3.2% decline was also part of a broader aerospace selloff. RTX fell 3.66%, while Lockheed Martin dropped 3.00%. The S&P 500 also declined 0.87%. Even so, Boeing underperformed the broader index by more than two percentage points, suggesting that company-specific concerns remained an important factor behind the move. FAA inspection costs remain small. The latest FAA directive adds another layer of scrutiny. The agency estimates an initial visual inspection cost of about $40,035 for each of the 471 U.S.-registered 737 MAX aircraft covered by the directive. More extensive inspections, including eddy-current testing, could cost as much as $160,140 per aircraft during a cycle. The requirements are scheduled to take effect on September 10, 2026. On a direct financial basis, those inspection expenses are relatively modest compared with Boeing's overall market value. The bigger concern for shareholders is what additional inspections could reveal and whether potential findings might disrupt production schedules or create costly rework. The FAA's directive therefore represents more than an expense calculation. For investors, it is another test of whether Boeing can maintain quality standards while accelerating production. Boeing's turnaround shows progress. Despite the renewed safety concerns, Boeing's recent operating figures provide reasons for optimism. The company reported second-quarter revenue of $24.56 billion, an 8% increase from $22.75 billion a year earlier. Commercial aircraft deliveries climbed 14% to 171 from 150, while commercial operating losses narrowed. Perhaps more importantly for investors, free cash flow improved sharply. Boeing generated $631 million during the quarter, compared with a $200 million outflow in the same period last year. The company's order backlog also reached a record $715 billion, representing more than 6,200 commercial aircraft. That substantial pipeline provides Boeing with significant long-term demand visibility if it can execute on deliveries and maintain quality. The FAA has also provided some encouraging signals. In July, the regulator said eight months of monitoring showed steady production quality and restored Boeing's ability to issue airworthiness certificates for 737 MAX and 787 aircraft, while continuing inspections and audits.
