The Role:
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report onsite at the GM Global Technical Center - Estes Engineering Center at least three times per week minimum or other frequency dictated by the business. This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.
As a Senior Vehicle Software Integration Engineer at GM, you are responsible for the integration and high-level testing of vehicle electronic control systems on New/Major/Mid-Cycle vehicle development programs. This role is rich in electrical and software systems integration experience that will give you exposure to serial data interfaces, software functionality, diagnostics, flash programming as well as End of Line processing data. New/Major/Mid-Cycle vehicle programs may include advanced/new architectures, technology and electronics built in multiple vehicle assembly plants globally. You will find yourself as the focal point and one of the first to touch the integration of new features, technology and content staging the platform for tomorrow.
This exciting position is located in the central hub for vehicle software quality and will transform how GM develops, tests, and measures the quality of software within the vehicle. You will have the opportunity and autonomy to develop completely new approaches as well as collaborating with different business units all around GM. This role will have a high degree of exposure and is terrific for technical and leadership growth!
What You’ll do:
- Leads and performs bench-level CG4076 Design Integration Testing (DIT) of software releases prior to vehicle builds and rides in order to identify and resolve significant software integration issues. (Coordinates with Bench Lead Engineers, Controls Managers, Manufacturing, Validation, and DRE’s)
- Provide full system integration support to full electrical system benches to include flash programming, integration, root cause and troubleshooting support for software issues constraining the property.
- Participate in escalation and collaboration discussions (as required) and provide feedback to management teams on all issues that impact software or timing.
- Contribute/lead initiatives to drive quality while increasing throughput through automation.
- Support/Conduct Readiness Testing with Assembly Verification team.
- Provide technical guidance to the team during issue identification and triage
- Support pre-production data file readiness and software assessment and create pre-production Software and Calibrations documentation.
- Support pre-production and production build activities and vehicle ride trips when requested.
- Monitor End of Line Test results during vehicle launch and assist in investigation of issues.
- Support root-cause effort for problem resolution to component level
- Plans and implements test and/or development programs
- Communicates, coordinates, and consults with engineering departments and customers
- Stays abreast of new technology and competitive products
- Minimal travel as needs arise.
Additional Job Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s in Engineering: BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aeronautical Engineering; Computer Science or Information Technology
- 5+ years of work experience in a related field (outside of internship and co-op)
- Ability to investigate and root cause complex electrical issues utilizing common electrical test equipment (multi-meter, scopes, etc.)
- In-depth knowledge of communication networks, including but not limited to CAN, LIN, and Ethernet
- Experience with common serial data test equipment and programs (NeoVI (Vehicle Spy), CANoe/CANalyzer, DPS Tool, etc.)
- Experience and understanding with vehicle electrical architecture, automotive electrical systems and functional sub-systems
- Demonstrated leadership, organizational agility, collaborative spirit and interpersonal skills to influence effectively across all levels of a large organization
- Exceptional communication and documentation skills, with a high level of interpersonal skill to work effectively with people in other functions and regions
- Strong project management skills and the ability to plan, prioritize work and execute the plan to meet business objectives on time with quality
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Skills)
- Masters in Engineering: MS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Aeronautical Engineering; Computer Science or Information Technology
- Experience with data analysis such as but not limited to CAN & Ethernet Log review, DTC and other diagnostic modes (DID/RID/IODIDs etc)
- First-hand experience with End-of-Line, Programming, Static and DVT testing
- Experience with existing software tools such as but not limited to IntrepidCS / RadMoon / Gigastar, Robot Framework, INCA, WireShark
- Knowledge of vehicle development (GVDP) milestones, VeSCoM packages and associated tools (SPR, VCAM, etc) and software deployment processes
- High level analytical ability where problems are unusual and complex
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and effectively with others
Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of New York, Colorado, California, or Washington
- Compensation: The expected base compensation for this role is: $94,200 - $149,200 . Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
- Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
