Nordic Semiconductor's nRF Cloud powered by Memfault wins Cloud Computing Innovation of the Year award at Mobile Breakthrough Awards. nRF Cloud powered by Memfault is a device observability, device management and location services platform enabling developers to monitor, manage, and update their devices with unprecedented ease. Nordic Semiconductor, a global leader in low power wireless connectivity solutions, today announced that its nRF Cloud powered by Memfault platform has been awarded 'Cloud Computing Innovation of the Year' in the 2025 Mobile Breakthrough Awards. nRF Cloud powered by Memfault brings Memfault's proven observability and over-the-air (OTA) infrastructure directly into nRF Cloud, Nordic's established cloud services platform. Earlier this year Nordic acquired Memfault, the market-leading cloud platform provider for large-scale deployments of connected products. The acquisition marked a major leap in Nordic's evolution from a hardware supplier to a complete wireless solution partner - from chip to cloud. The result is nRF Cloud powered by Memfault, a full device observability, device management and location services platform enabling developers to monitor, manage, and update their devices with unprecedented ease and efficiency. It gives users out-of-the-box access to remote diagnostics, fleet health monitoring, and secure updates across not only Nordic's nRF91 Series of cellular IoT modules, but also the nRF54, nRF53 and nRF52 Series' of multiprotocol wireless SoCs. With simple integration, users can get started at no cost and scale efficiently. It reflects its move from a best-in-class wireless System-on-Chip supplier to a full chip-to-cloud solution partner, including embedded software and cloud lifecycle services. Oyvind Birkenes, EVP Long-Range at Nordic Semiconductor Comprehensive chip-to-cloud solution. Now in their 9th year, the annual Mobile Breakthrough Awards recognize the most innovative products, companies and individuals in the global mobile, wireless and telecommunications technology industries, and are organized by leading global market intelligence firm, Tech Breakthrough. The judging process is a thorough, multi-step evaluation conducted by an independent panel. Each entry is assessed on key criteria such as innovation, performance, user experience, functionality, market impact and value. "We are honored that nRF Cloud powered by Memfault has been recognized for its contribution to cloud computing and the global wireless technology industry," says Oyvind Birkenes, EVP Long-Range at Nordic Semiconductor. "It reflects our move from a best-in-class wireless System-on-Chip supplier to a full chip-to-cloud solution partner, including embedded software and cloud lifecycle services." "This award gives our customers confidence to build cloud-connected IoT products with our technology," Birkenes added. "Nordic is committed to making that journey easier, faster, more power-efficient, and more secure throughout the entire product lifecycle."
Nordic Semiconductor has acquired Memfault Inc. for $120 million, enhancing its transition from a hardware company to a complete solution provider. The acquisition integrates Nordic's wireless solutions with Memfault's cloud services, creating a comprehensive chip-to-cloud platform for connected products. Memfault's ARR was $7.2 million at the end of 2024, expected to grow by over 50% in 2025. The deal is financed with cash and a $110 million loan, closing in July.
Variscite, a worldwide System on Module (SoM) designer, developer and manufacturer, has announced a partnership with Memfault to expand Variscite SoM management, security and over-the-air (OTA) capabilities.
Through its partnership with Memfault, Conclusive Engineering is enhancing its toolkit to better manage, debug and observe IoT devices, making significant strides in how Conclusive Engineering support its clients post-deployment," says Jakub Klama, CEO of Conclusive Engineering. "
