Requirements
  • Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current unrestricted or pending licensure in Michigan.
  • Licensure as a Physician Assistant and a state Drug Enforcement Administration license to prescribe medications.
  • Current prescriptive authority and a collaborative agreement with an oversight physician or physicians.
  • Maintain all requirements for medical staff privileges.
  • Ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and other job-relevant software.
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication, including use of the Situation-Background-Assessment-Recommendation technique.
Responsibilities
  • Work in the outpatient setting Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., alongside three physicians and three advanced practice providers.
  • Perform comprehensive and problem-focused histories and physical examinations.
  • Interpret laboratory and radiologic tests, correlate subjective and objective patient data, and formulate diagnoses.
  • Review patient findings with the physician and develop treatment plans within the scope of practice.
  • Provide clinical activities in outpatient and inpatient settings and demonstrate competencies specific to the served population.
  • Coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team to support patient progress toward outcomes, including discharge or transfer of care.
  • Act as a clinical resource for the multidisciplinary team.
  • Identify common patient complications and use appropriate preventive measures.
  • Assist with developing and integrating quality measures and evidence into clinical practice.
  • Perform initial comprehensive assessments to determine whether patients require higher-intensity services or transfer to a hospital setting.
  • Apply regulatory and third-party payer criteria for utilization management.
  • Facilitate timely discharges and transfers to the appropriate level of care.
  • Evaluate and appropriately manage patients.
  • Evaluate laboratory results, electrocardiograms, and imaging studies.
  • Complete documentation supporting billing, medical care, orders, and progress notes.
  • Respond to nursing questions and evaluate patient status changes.
  • Communicate daily with physicians, multidisciplinary teams, finance and management, patients, third-party payers, and community agencies.
