Requirements
  • A Patient Care Technician I must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A Patient Care Technician II must have a high school diploma or GED and one of the following: an associate or bachelor's degree; at least one year working in a 0.6 FTE Patient Care Technician I position at MUSC CHS; one year of experience in a healthcare facility; active enrollment in nursing school with completion of Nursing Fundamentals from an accredited institution; active enrollment in a healthcare-related field from an accredited institution; or certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant from an accredited institution.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required within two weeks of hire and must thereafter remain current through an American Heart Association certification or an American Red Cross CPR/AED certification for professional rescuers and healthcare providers.
  • The employee must be able to perform the listed standing, sitting, walking, stair-climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, reaching, bending, grasping, fine-motor, visual, hearing, sensory, and physical-force requirements, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds unassisted.
  • The employee must be able to deal effectively with stressful situations, work rotating shifts and overtime as required, and work in a latex-safe environment.
  • For selected positions, the employee must maintain good olfactory sensory function and be physically qualified for respirator use initially and as required.
Responsibilities
  • Report to the Nurse Manager and work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
  • Perform multi-skilled activities that support a decentralized, patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Work three 12-hour rotating shifts per week, including weekends and holidays.
