  • A high school diploma or equivalent GED is required.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills across departments.
  • Understand principles of perioperative practice, including aseptic technique, infection control, traffic patterns, and patient safety.
  • Understand National Patient Safety Goals related to patient identification.
  • Handle highly technical service-specific equipment safely, including microscopes, lasers, and video equipment.
  • Understand appropriate specimen handling, including packaging, preservatives, tracking, and regulatory compliance.
  • Meet the physical and environmental demands of the role, including frequent lifting and carrying of more than 100 pounds and exposure to biohazardous conditions, radiation risks, fumes, airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
Responsibilities
  • Perform unit secretary duties, including telephone duties, appropriate message taking, and related tasks.
  • Assist the registered nurse in patient care, including lifting, turning, repositioning, obtaining vital signs, performing electrocardiograms, urine pregnancy tests, and Accu-checks.
  • Escort and transport patients and equipment to various hospital locations as required.
  • Operate, clean, maintain, assemble, prepare, and move service-specific equipment as directed.
  • Deliver specimens, cultures, and laboratory samples to appropriate locations within acceptable time frames.
  • Act as a liaison with the hospital Biomedical Department.
  • Assist with room turnover, including cleaning and hazardous material disposal.
  • Restock, clean, and maintain supplies in preoperative and postoperative areas.
  • Monitor and maintain oxygen cylinders to ensure adequate supply in preoperative and postoperative areas.
Desired Qualifications
  • One year of experience in a healthcare-related occupation.
  • Completion of the first semester of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse program.
