Fiberglass found in IV solution made in North Carolina: FDA. Posted: Sep 4, 2026 / 08:09 AM EDT Updated: Sep 4, 2026 / 08:09 AM EDT MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. (WSPA) - A medical equipment company recalled two lots of IV solution last week after potential fiberglass contamination was identified in products manufactured in western North Carolina. Baxter Healthcare issued a voluntary recall on Aug. 25 for two lots of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection. According to the FDA, particulate matter in injectable products can cause blood clotting, which can lead to permanent organ damage or death. The product was manufactured at the company's North Cove facility outside of Marion. The solution was distributed to providers from July 31 through Aug. 3, 2026, in the Carolinas and Georgia, as well as Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Ohio, Texas, and Virginia. The product is packaged in 500 mL VIAFLEX plastic containers, with 24 units in each case. In a statement shared with 7NEWS, Baxter said it initiated the recall in coordination with the FDA after identifying potential particulate matter in the affected solutions. ShinyHunters claims theft of more than 7.1 million Baxter International records.

ShinyHunters claims theft of more than 7.1 million Baxter International records. Medical technology firm Baxter International disclosed a major cybersecurity incident after the ShinyHunters hacking group said that it had infiltrated the company's internal systems and exfiltrated more than 7.1 million records. Headquartered in Deerfield, Illinois, Baxter International is a global American medical technology company that develops and manufactures products for treating acute and chronic medical conditions. Its portfolio includes IV solutions, infusion pumps, clinical nutrition therapies, surgical sealants, hospital beds, patient monitoring systems, and operating-room integration equipment. Baxter also provides specialty injectable medicines, inhaled anesthetics, and drug-compounding services. In a data security notification posted on its website, Baxter International revealed that it had identified unauthorised access involving certain third-party applications. The company immediately launched an investigation, with assistance from external cyber security experts, to determine the scope and impact of the incident. It also took steps to secure the affected systems and notified relevant law enforcement authorities about the incident. While the investigation remains ongoing, Baxter International said there has been no impact on its manufacturing operations, customer operations, patient services, or overall business continuity. The company continues to operate normally. "Teiss has no evidence that this activity affected Baxter products, connected solutions or technologies used by customers to deliver patient care. "Healthcare providers and customers can continue using Baxter products and connected solutions as intended," the medical device manufacturer said. The company said it is continuing to assess what information may have been accessed or acquired. The investigation is still ongoing, and Baxter International will share further updates as more details are confirmed. "At this time, we do not expect a material impact on financials or results of operations as a result of this incident," Baxter International added. The ShinyHunters ransomware group claimed responsibility for the cyber attack on Baxter International listing the company as a victim on its data leak site. The group claimed to have obtained 7.1 million records from the company and threatened to release it publicly. Following unsuccessful ransom negotiations, on August 19, the hacker group released the stolen data.

2 drugs recalled over potential fiberglass, steel presence. by: Zach Kaplan Posted: Aug 27, 2026 / 08:35 PM EDT Updated: Aug 27, 2026 / 08:50 PM EDT (NewsNation) - Baxter International voluntarily recalled two drugs this week over the potential presence of particulate matter, including steel and fiberglass. The Food and Drug Administration said Aug. 25 that the large healthcare company voluntarily recalled a single lot of its 70% Dextrose Injection over the potential presence of steel particles. The product was distributed nationwide to healthcare providers from July 25, 2026, through July 28, 2026. The injection is used to "provide your body with extra water and carbohydrates," according to the Mayo Clinic. "It is used when a patient is not able to drink enough liquids or when additional fluids are needed." The FDA warned that the presence of steel particles in the solution can lead to potentially life-threatening health consequences. The recall is most likely to impact patients who get IV nutrition at home, Medical Daily reported. That same day, the FDA announced a second voluntary recall for Anticoagulant Sodium Citrate Solution because it may contain fiberglass. The product was distributed from July 2, 2026, through July 11, 2026, to one customer in the U.S. The extent of harm that particulate matter can cause in the sodium citrate solution depends on "the size, number, morphology, and composition of the foreign material," the FDA said. The solution slows down blood clotting during apheresis procedures, the agency previously confirmed. Both products were packaged in VIAFLEX plastic containers. As of this week, the FDA said there have been no reports of adverse effects from these products. For questions, consumers can call the company at 888-229-0001 during standard business hours. "Baxter is contacting customers by email with instructions on how to identify and return the impacted product(s)," the FDA added. This follows another voluntary Baxter recall last month for one lot of its Cefazolin in Dextrose Injection after cardboard was found in the solution, the FDA said.
