Preparation of tax returns, analyzing transactional data, and improving processes through technology & systems.

What You’ll be Doing:
- Prepare state and local use tax returns.
- Learn and leverage available technology, including Alteryx, to achieve efficiencies and process improvements.
- Learn the sales and use tax laws in the states where Meijer operates; stay up to date with changes in the various tax laws adapting reporting changes when applicable.
- Review transactional data to ascertain the proper tax treatment, investigate discrepancies, research the corresponding tax law, adjust the accruals and return data; seek to prevent issue from continuing in the future.
- Assist in the data gathering, technical research and numerical analyses during use tax audits.
- Participate in cross-functional team projects for reporting requirements and tax exposure minimization.
- Become the lead person for sales / use tax matters on Meijer purchases of goods for its own use.
- Communicate with Meijer team members throughout the company and with vendors to provide or obtain information.

What You Bring with You (Qualifications):
- Bachelor of Accounting or Business Degree.
- Previous professional experience in an accounting or tax role.
- Meijer financial and technology systems knowledge is a plus.
- Ability to quickly learn tax technical rules and the application to Meijer’s business.
- Ability to quickly learn additional technology and systems.
- Strong organization and documentation skills.
- Analytical skills for the resolution of problems.
- Strong communication skills – both written and oral.
- Ability to form partnerships with the key business areas and throughout the Meijer vendor community.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects, meeting tight deadlines.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, changing environment.
- Ability to envision future changes while retaining memory of past practices / transactions to sustain historical tax positions under audit.
- Ability to think creatively when business or the law changes to minimize the impact on tax exposure and reporting.
