Responsibilities
  • Prepare state and local use tax returns.
  • Learn and leverage available technology, including Alteryx, to achieve efficiencies and process improvements.
  • Learn the sales and use tax laws in the states where Meijer operates; stay up to date with changes in the various tax laws adapting reporting changes when applicable.
  • Review transactional data to ascertain the proper tax treatment, investigate discrepancies, research the corresponding tax law, adjust the accruals and return data; seek to prevent issue from continuing in the future.
  • Assist in the data gathering, technical research and numerical analyses during use tax audits.
  • Participate in cross-functional team projects for reporting requirements and tax exposure minimization.
  • Become the lead person for sales / use tax matters on Meijer purchases of goods for its own use.
  • Communicate with Meijer team members throughout the company and with vendors to provide or obtain information.
