Responsibilities
  • Consults with the University research community to evaluate and enhance the design of the SDE service to meet the data privacy and security requirements of the data providers.
  • Collaborates with other RCC and SDE stakeholders to provide a complete and cohesive service to faculty, PI’s and related research staff.
  • Consults with PI’s and researchers to help them develop solutions that satisfy the data use agreements associated with their research proposals and awards.
  • Provides expertise and guidance in security with best practices.
  • Designs and implements secure infrastructure solutions for HPC and research data environments.
  • Prepares for and/or lead recurring SDE governance meetings with leadership for the SDE.
  • Meets regularly with ITS and RCC management and staff to monitor SDE utilization and trends.
  • Maintains the Secure Data Enclave web site, related knowledge base articles, training materials and communication plans.
  • Plans and coordinates research security training programs for faculty, staff, and other researchers.
  • Collaborates with the Research Computing Center, IT Services, and University Research Administration to facilitate secure data management.
  • In conjunction with the RCC, identifies issues impacting the successful operation of the SDE, and monitors the pipeline of requests for SDE services. Manages SDE performance and adherence to service level agreements.
  • Provides periodic reporting on SDE activities, utilization, and performance to leadership.
  • Monitors adherence to SDE security and privacy policies.
  • Assists in preparation of proposals to expand and enhance SDE services to meet the needs of the University.
  • Assists in developing capital and operating expense budgetary proposals as requested.
  • Solves complex problems relating to user security needs and supports the implementation of procedures to accommodate them. Ensures that the user community understands and adheres to necessary procedures to maintain security.
  • Uses a deep understanding of IT expertise to develop and implement security and compliance policies, guidelines, and safe practices for university-wide computing and networking systems.
  • Guides communications with users to understand their security needs and supports the implementation of procedures to accommodate them. Ensures that user community understands and adheres to necessary procedures to maintain security.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum five years of experience at a research 1 university.
  • Background in research computing is highly desirable.
  • Skilled with IT infrastructure, security and strategic planning.
  • Familiarity with sensitive data management considerations and standards.
  • Knowledge of data security and privacy standards.
