Groundworks is seeking a talented Manager of Customs Compliance and Transportation to join our tribe in Virginia Beach, VA!
In this role, you will oversee domestic transportation between our distribution centers, suppliers, and branches across the US and Canada. You will also shape and oversee importing processes with a focus on compliance and efficiency.

Job Responsibilities
Define and lead strategic initiatives related to Customs compliance and domestic and international transportation activity with key providers including Customs brokers, over-the-road carriers, ocean carriers, NVOCCs, and drayage carriers.
Develop and implement a compliance program ensuring Groundworks adherence to all applicable Customs and other governmental regulations.
Collaborate with carriers to secure the most optimum freight rates to support Groundworks objectives.
Manage all day-to-day Customs and transportation-related activities.
Drive cost out of our end-to-end transportation and customs spend.
Manage or otherwise lead the research and assignment of harmonized tariff schedule (HTS) numbers for both U.S. and Canada as well as export control classification (ECCN) for new and existing product updates and maintain a product database with classification justifications.
Ensure accurate product country of origin and country of origin labeling text for products.
Partner closely with all internal stakeholders; Distribution, Fulfillment, Field Operations, Inventory,
Manufacturing, and Procurement to understand their needs and requirements pertaining to transportation.
Develop and maintain service provider and carrier KPI scorecards to be used in monthly, quarterly, and annual performance discussions.
Develop standard methodologies to drive operational consistency, standardization, and value to the business.
Responsible for executing an annual transportation RFQ.
Serve as a go-to partner and strategic thought leader for all shipping projects related to transportation.
Identifies transportation process improvement opportunities through strategic thinking, critical thinking, and analysis.
Be a trusted advisor by developing and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders to support business needs.
Identify and execute strategic initiatives to ensure ability to meet future growth.
Qualifications
Must be a licensed Customs Broker
Degree in Logistics or Supply Chain related field required or applicable work experience preferred.
5-7 years of experience in Customs and domestic/international transportation.
3+ years of management experience in a similar role.
Understanding and working knowledge of import and export regulations for the U.S. and foreign countries. Including EAR, CCL, ICC Incoterms, ISF, HTSUS, and Schedule B product classification.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong analytical and financial leadership skills.
Consistent history of surpassing objectives and delivering exceptional results.
Must be willing to travel up to 35%.
Proficient in Microsoft Office products. Excel super user required.
Ability to work well autonomously and within a team environment.
Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting.
Continuous improvement mindset, including the ability to innovate and simplify legacy processes.
Experience in project management, budget, and predictive cost analytics.
Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization.
Proven record of taking ownership and driving results.
Working Conditions
The Manager of Customs Compliance and Transportation will spend most of their time in the office in Virginia Beach, VA with medium noise level. Will occasionally travel to distribution, manufacturing, and warehouse
environments.
