Requirements
  • The candidate must have 10 years of field experience with a background as a skilled tradesperson, or a Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or construction management plus 7 years of field experience.
  • The candidate must have a four-year engineering or construction management degree, or equivalent technical experience progressing from Journeyman to Foreman to Superintendent.
  • The candidate must understand and interpret safety laws, company policies and standards, and labor collective bargaining agreements.
  • The candidate must have a thorough understanding of basic and complex construction management processes and building techniques.
  • The candidate must have prior direct profit and loss responsibility and accountability.
  • The candidate must have advanced computer skills.
  • The candidate must be able to organize and manage multiple priorities, analyze and resolve problems, and exercise sound judgment.
  • The candidate must understand corporate and industry practices, processes, and standards and their impact on project activities.
  • The candidate must be able to manage a team of varied self-performing trade disciplines.
Responsibilities
  • The Mechanical Superintendent plans, directs, and coordinates construction activities for mechanical industrial projects.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent leads mechanical teams and projects from preconstruction through final completion.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent is directly responsible for safety, quality, client relations, project budget, schedule, job controls, vendor management, submittals, and procedures.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent oversees one large project or several smaller projects.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent ensures project goals are accomplished within prescribed time frames and funding parameters, personally or through subordinate supervisors.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent manages Project Engineers, General Foremen, and Foremen who supervise construction employees, with overall responsibility for team direction, coordination, and evaluation.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent establishes a safety culture for crews.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent maintains liaison with the prime client to facilitate construction activities.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent leads construction projects from start to finish, including planning, scheduling, and coordination, and helps maintain project schedules to meet milestones and budgets.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent ensures team members have appropriate equipment, materials, and information.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent provides technical expertise to team members, helps plan difficult construction, and assists with start-up and closeout problems.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent works with the Project Manager and Director on personnel-related issues and actions in accordance with company policies and government laws.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent identifies and minimizes obstacles throughout the construction process.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent establishes project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards within corporate policy boundaries.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent confers with project staff to outline work plans and assign duties, responsibilities, and authority.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent reviews project proposals or plans to determine time frames, funding limitations, procedures, staffing requirements, and available resources for project phases.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent reviews status reports from project personnel and modifies schedules and plans as needed.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent provides technical advice to project personnel and resolves problems.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent coordinates project activities with subcontractors.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent analyzes and executes critical path method-based project schedules.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent represents the company in owner progress meetings.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent leads daily field coordination meetings, weekly block schedule meetings, and monthly safety kickoff meetings.
  • The Mechanical Superintendent interviews and hires employees, trains them, plans and directs their work, appraises performance, rewards or disciplines them, and addresses complaints and resolves problems.
