  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science
  • 19+ years of relevant experience if filled as Research and Development Engineer - Principal Professional
  • 14+ years of relevant experience if filled as Research and Development Engineer - Senior Professional
  • Ability to obtain a government security clearance; U.S. citizen is required to apply
  • Demonstrated success leading a team of engineers/scientists and collaborating with large teams on multi-organization, multi-disciplinary projects
  • Demonstrated success developing new business, including proposal writing and technical presentation skills
  • Working location fully on-site in State College, Pennsylvania; periodic travel to remote locations in support of testing as part of a small team of researchers, engineers, and technologists
  • Demonstrated experience with applied sustainment technologies for DoD applications including advanced maintenance technologies, predictive maintenance analytics, organizational enterprise resource planning systems, logistics information technologies, fleet management systems, DoD supply systems, supply chain forecasting, and sustainment support for DoD expeditionary operations
Responsibilities
  • Have a working technical understanding of the wide range of Applied Sustainment Technologies for DoD applications including advanced maintenance technologies, predictive maintenance analytics, organizational enterprise resource planning systems, logistics information technologies, fleet management systems, DoD supply systems, supply chain forecasting, and sustainment support for DoD expeditionary operations
  • Actively lead and participate in the development of funded project opportunities with new sponsors with the division engineers and scientists, including strategic planning for identifying new business opportunities, developing activity plans for meeting with new potential sponsors, and creating business development presentation material
  • Lead and/or assist in the development of proposals and projects that further knowledge and expertise in Applied Sustainment Technologies; Lead a group of engineers, scientists, and support staff engaged in developing technologies critical to the advancement of the Applied Sustainment Technologies Division
  • Mentor and encourage creativity in innovative technologies and research
  • Conduct labor planning activities to ensure all departmental staff and faculty are appropriately and sufficiently tasked at all times
  • Review and analyze Division level financial project and overhead funding/expenditure data to enable data driven decision making for managing the Division
  • Recruiting, retaining, and defining performance expectations of department head staff and faculty
  • Evaluate the professional growth and performance of Department Heads through performance reviews and coaching conversations
  • Contribute to the design, development, implementation, and analysis of technical engineering products, systems, and subsystems
  • Investigate and evaluate practical applicability of scientific theories and engineering principles to develop and improve various engineering systems; identify technical approach for solving problems and meeting customer/grantor needs
  • Apply standard practices and techniques in specific situations, correlate data, recognize discrepancies in results and follow operations through a series of related detailed steps or processes
  • Conduct experiments/tests in the laboratory/field to test, prove, or modify theoretical propositions on basis of research findings and experiences of others researching in related technical areas; may include taking measurements and recording observations, collecting, compiling, and processing data; may include planning/designing experiments or tests and supervising the execution thereof
  • Initiate or contribute data/analysis/design for use in technical reports, documents, proposals, papers, or oral/written presentations
