Requirements
  • Graduate from an approved magnetic resonance imaging course that meets current qualifications to apply for and take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Magnetic Resonance Imaging board examination upon hire.
  • Obtain American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Magnetic Resonance Imaging certification or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists certification within six months of hire.
  • Obtain licensure from the Oregon Board of Medical Imaging within six months of hire.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association; new hires complete this during orientation.
  • Speak clearly and demonstrate patience with research subject needs.
  • Use computers, phones, and copy machines.
  • Stand, assist, and transfer research subjects.
  • Maintain knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Make independent decisions regarding research subject care and the completeness and appropriateness of ordered examinations.
Responsibilities
  • Operate Siemens magnetic resonance imaging instruments for clinical research study scans.
  • Ensure subject safety by reviewing magnetic resonance imaging screening forms and discussing them with the study team and subjects before initiating scans.
  • Administer magnetic resonance imaging contrast agents according to research protocols.
  • Manage data storage and transfer.
  • Assist in developing research protocols for Advanced Imaging Research Center faculty and the user community.
  • Perform quality assurance scans and test protocols on Advanced Imaging Research Center instruments to assess instrument performance.
  • Clean, disinfect, or sterilize facility areas and equipment.
  • Ensure areas meet clinical standards and implement standard infection-control procedures.
  • Maintain code-cart logging and manage updates.
  • Coordinate with OHSU clinical support units to handle clean and dirty linens, stock clinical supplies, and ensure code carts and point-of-care instruments and operations are properly maintained.
  • Perform basic magnetic resonance imaging troubleshooting and schedule service appointments with contracted Siemens engineers when instrument issues arise.
  • Provide training and magnetic resonance imaging screening for OHSU employees, volunteers, external users, and other individuals entering Advanced Imaging Research Center magnetic resonance imaging areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Complete a formal training program with documented or demonstrated technical competencies, including at least six months of full-time clinical experience in magnetic resonance imaging.
  • Experience running research protocols on magnetic resonance instruments.
  • Experience working with research subjects or patients with limited mobility, progressed disease, or cognitive deficits.
