Controls Engineer

Job Description

The Controls Engineer-SCADA position, is located at our Fremont Factory. The primary responsibility of this role is design, development, and maintenance of the SCADA systems used to manage production factory-wide. The successful candidate will have both theoretical and hands-on experience in a factory production environment and process optimization, upgrades & modifications. They must be capable of collaborating with cross-functional teams and department leaders to address concerns and issues that affect production efficiency and maintenance. The successful candidate must be able to plan and work proactively. 

Job Responsibilities

• Design and enhance SCADA systems to optimize and control manufacturing operations
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements and specifications, leveraging data insights to inform decisions
• Develop and implement engineered solutions to resolve issues, streamline processes, and maximize production efficiency
• Modify PLC and HMI applications in the field to meet evolving requirements and improve system performance
• Configure and deploy SCADA hardware/software, including Ignition 8, EMES, SICAR, and FactoryTalk View, to ensure seamless factory operations
• Manage and organize manufacturing data using SQL databases, enabling efficient data analysis and reporting
• Conduct functional testing of control systems, HMI, and SCADA to validate system performance and reliability
• Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to SCADA, data, SQL queries, and Python scripts to minimize production downtime
• Maintain comprehensive system documentation, tracking configurations, changes, and updates for operational continuity
• Provide training and ongoing support to engineers, operators, and maintenance staff during shutdown, commissioning, version rollouts and updates to existing systems

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
• 3+ years of proven experience as SCADA/Controls Engineer
• Proficiency in Python, Java or C++ programming languages
•  Strong understanding of databases and data management
• Proven interpersonal skills and ability to objectively resolve conflict within a large group
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
• Able to work flexible hours and schedules as required
• In-depth knowledge of SCADA software, hardware, and protocols and previous experience with Ignition 7/ 8 is highly desirable
