Requirements
  • A current New Hampshire registered nurse license is required.
  • Graduation from an approved nursing program is strongly preferred.
  • An Associate of Science in Nursing is required.
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred.
  • Basic Dysrhythmia certification is preferred or must be obtained before completing orientation.
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale certification is preferred or must be obtained before completing orientation.
  • Specialty certification is preferred.
  • Crisis Prevention Institute training is preferred or must be obtained within six months of hire; advanced training is required for Emergency Department and Intensive Care Unit roles within six months of hire.
  • Three to five years of critical care experience is preferred for the Cardiac Cath and Angiography Lab.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification is preferred for critical care registered nurse roles and required before completing orientation, subject to the stated role exclusions.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is preferred, with the stated role-specific completion requirements.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course certification is preferred and required within 18 months of hire for the Emergency Department.
  • Trauma Care After Resuscitation certification is preferred and required within one year of hire for the Intensive Care Unit and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit.
  • Membership in a professional organization is preferred.
  • Cath Lab and Stress Lab roles require call shifts.
  • Cath Lab and Angiography Lab staff must be able to remain within a 30-minute radius while on call.
Responsibilities
  • Provide professional nursing care to patients within an assigned hospital unit in support of medical care and hospital policies.
  • Complete unit-specific competencies and requirements for caring for critically ill patients during orientation and annually as assigned.
  • Participate in quality-improvement planning and processes for the practice area.
  • Complete comprehensive, timely clinical documentation and care plans in the electronic health record, including vital signs, assessments, care plans, and changes in condition.
  • Respond promptly to patient-monitoring alarms and emergency situations, including Code Blue and rapid response events.
  • Collect, label, and send ordered specimens to the laboratory according to policy.
  • Analyze patient assessments and data, communicate findings, document actions, and implement interventions accurately and promptly.
  • Communicate patient information through handoffs, walking rounds, and physician or provider interactions to support continuity and safe care.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families during difficult situations.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment by following established procedures and protocols and implementing patient-safety initiatives.
  • Complete hourly rounding in collaboration with Licensed Nursing Assistants on assigned patients.
  • Identify and help correct patient-care safety issues, escalating issues through the appropriate chain of command.
  • Collaborate across units and shifts and consult nurses in other clinical areas to resolve issues and draw on specialty expertise.
  • Collaborate with providers to complete assessments and perform bedside procedures.
  • Delegate appropriate aspects of care and unit activities to other nursing personnel.
  • Support and mentor new nurses and other disciplines through preceptorship and other department-requested methods.
  • Participate in unit or organizational committees, councils, shared governance, peer review, DNV survey readiness, and the annual 360 evaluation process as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality during peer review and comply with organizational Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act policies.
  • Maintain accurate timekeeping and patient-supply utilization, avoid unauthorized overtime, and manage earned time off according to policy.
  • Respond to patient-care concerns, compliments, and suggestions and collaborate with team members to resolve conflicts and issues.
  • For Emergency Department assignments, triage patients, determine Emergency Severity Index priority, implement approved protocol orders, perform and repeat focused assessments, recognize life-threatening conditions, initiate corrective actions, complete documentation for admitted or boarding patients, and improve patient throughput.
  • For Cardiac Cath and Angiography Lab assignments, manage complex or critical-care medication infusions including titration, perform cardiac assessments and medication reviews, support emergency cardiac interventions, create and maintain a sterile field, prepare equipment and supplies, administer and document procedural sedation, maintain radiation safety, remove arterial and venous sheaths according to guidelines, assist with Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump and Impella setup, insertion, and maintenance, assist with Flow wire, Opsens, and Intravascular Ultrasound insertion, and monitor and interpret hemodynamic waveforms.
